G'day,

Collectively we put together a good document on Fire Prevention.

http://www.gmceast.com/technical/Mueller_GMCer-Fire-Guide.pdf

I'd like to do the same thing for Winterizing / mothballing.

The principle is to have the coach ready to roll in the spring.

This is brainstorming, suggest whatever you like, there are no right or wrong things to suggest!

These items are in no specific order we can organize them later.

Change engine oil
Change engine oil filter
Check transmission fluid / change if near recommended interval
Change transmission oil filter if transmission oil changed
Check air filter / change if required
Check radiator level / change anti-freeze if near recommended interval - (can someone recommend an interval)
Check final drive fluid level / change final drive fluid if near recommended interval
Check / lubricate distributor centrifugal advance
Check brake fluid / change every other year
Grease wheel bearings (if near recommended interval)
Grease front end / steering
Grease bogies
Drain fresh water supply tank
Drain water heater
Flush and drain black water tank
Purge water from hot and cold water supply lines
Fill hot and cold water supply lines with anti-freeze
Fill "S" and "P" traps with anti-freeze
Check battery fluid levels
Remove AFFF fire extinguishers from coach
Lift coach off tires and store on jack stands
Bleed pressure off rear suspension air bags
Rotate tires as per maintenance manual
Place mouse traps inside coach
Cover tires
Cover GMC
Fill fuel tanks to the MAX
Use Stabil, Seafoam, or some other fuel stabilizer
Install dehumidifier in humid climates and open all closets / storage areas

It's lunch time so I'll quit for the moment!

When we finish this we can do a de-winterizing / mothballing procedure too.

Regards,
Rob M.

Besure to block open refrigerator and freezer doors to prevent mold from
forming.

Rob,
Would it not be better to use a bait designed to make the rodent go off in
seach of water which it would hopefully find outside of your coach and
outside the storage unit.

Peter,

Never heard of a bait like that!

However, Downunder we'll use a bait that makes them want a tinnie! (beer) ;-)

here are a couple of things that I do,

anything inside which holds a battery (AA, AAA, C,ect) Wall clocks, flashlights, remotes ect,... I remove all batteries from the unit, I have had them explode during winter storage and ruin whatever they came in contact with.

Also mice hate the smell of Bounce dryer sheets, so I put them everywhere, in drawers, in closets, under beds, plus your coach smells nice inside when you reopen in the spring.

Use "Dri-z-air" things to catch moisture which will happen in a closed vehicle.

Also, an open container of bleach to prevent mold.

After I flush and drain the black tank, I pour in some antifreeze and run it through the macerator to displace any water still in the pump.

Rob,

You completely missed the APU.

If one is mothballing the coach, he should do this for the APU:

Drain and refill oil,
Replace filter if near service hour
Run the unit to warm
Remove the air filter
Disconnect the fuel pump power
Fog the engine as it dies on low fuel
Replace the air filter and connect fuel pump power

Don't use bait!! I did that two years ago and ended up with four or five dead mice all through the coach. They were in very tight places and took several weeks to find them all. As you can imagine rotting mice really smell. I will never use bait again.

I use a ratzapper
https://www.google.com/search?q=ratzapper&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.
mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&source=hp&channel=np

It's a high-voltage electrocuter gizmo.
Clean control! No pastes, poisons or bloody traps.
When a rodent enters a Rat Zapper to get the supplied dry bait, the
system senses its presence and delivers enough electrical energy to
quickly and humanely kill the rodent. A flashing red light on top of the
trap (or the optional Rat Tale) tells you when the Rat Zapper has done
its job. With Rat Zappers you never have to touch the dead rodent. To
remove the carcass, gently shake it out of the trap.

Amazon's $37 price is probably cheapest, because of the free shipping
over $25. And for an extra $15 or so you can get an extension LED gizmo
that tells you when it's been tripped, so you can stuff the ratzapper in
some really out of the way places, and still know when "You have mouse".
Take the 50 mouse battery life with a little salt.
You do have to check weekly, or you'll have a gooey mess in the box, and
you'll have to scrub the contact plates.
