My dad always said " hitch up your pants, and tighten your belt, we are
going to work"

I don't know about the pants, but-- WE ALL NEED TO TIGHTEN OUR BELTS---
I just finished looking at 8 GMC'S,
and
none of them had their belts correct, or knew they were not correct.

Tightening your belts is something you may only have to do once,
BUT WE ALL NEED TO DO IT ONCE

Checking the belt tension is easy to do, and will solve a lot of problems.
Over the 30 years of GMC modifications, everything to do with the belts has
changed.

Here is a link on how to test your belts, and where to get the tools to
help adjust the belts.

You might want to look at all of the slides to see the other belt problems
and how to fix them

have fun

Great info. Before going out into the cold to check my belts - I have a belt related question.

My a/c belt squeals. Spray belt dressing applied to the belt makes it stop. My mechanic "says" it is adjusted properly.

Comments?

Neil,
Once you adjust a belt, there is no way I would tell you that it is
correct when you get it as they do stretch at times.
I have paid to have others adjust it for my customers when they complained.
Belt dressing is a Long term solution.
It is better to have a shop not to over tighten the belt and knock out
the water pump.
