A quick, though non-conclusive check of timing chain problems, is to use a
timing light and watch the mark for fluctuations. Do this through the rpm
band up to 2,000 rpm. Should be steady as a rock in the mark on the
balancer. If you need them, I have a set of Mondello block off plates you
can have.

Hey Steve;
OK, I'll give that a check while I'm warming it up for the
compression check. I really appreciate the offer of the block off
plates, but I owe you too much already. I get to play my new Banjolin
everyday (my Luthier friend just loved it and played it outside of a
mexican restaurant in CA for me when I showed it to him). I'll get a
couple of pieces of stainless steel like you recommended. Hope to get
started next week on the teardown of the Stretch. I also have a lot of
work on the inside that I need to get done before my Yellowstone trip
in June.
