Harbor Freight has some pretty good deals this weekend. One that has me nearly opening my wallet is the solar panel kit. 45 watts for $180. Of course this wouldn't include the needed electronics to protect from overcharge and discharge, but it just might be a start to keeping the house batteries up to snuff.

Dan's blog has a very good entry about solar just now, and that got me thinking.

Is this deal "not so delicious" or is it sufficient for the low end?

Larry,

I have both the 5 and 1.5 watt chargers. Either is all that is needed to maintain a battery while the coach is in storage.
They are not battery chargers. ...but maintainers. They will not bring a battery back from the dead. I don't know if a 45 watt would either. VW transports their new cars with 1.5 watt units to the dealers.

Larry,

That solar kit at Harbor Fright goes on sale for $149 pretty regularly.

I have an old flier with the $149 price in it from October.

Good Luck.

Good thing the wallet didn't win that argument! I think that when the time comes I'll do it right and therefore do it once - just like Dan says.
