Anyone ever put their GMCs on jack stands while not using it?
I'm thinking about keeping my new super expensive tires off the ground when not in use so I can actually have them last since my GMC bankrupted me!! lol
My cheap tires got flat spotted after not driving them for many mths. Which is crazy, but this summer in az was HOT and I know for a fact those junky tires I had which had less then 300 miles on them were ruined because they sat and got flat spotted cause of heat and weight. I want to put the GMC on jackstands, has anyone done the same? Any pointers?

I don't see where it should pose a problem as mine was stored that way in the past while I was working on mechanical refurbishments.

Just be careful in jacking up the front end from the center so you do not crack the windshields, and be sure to place any jack stands on portions of the frame where there are more than just a single layer of metal as the frame rails will bend from the weight of the coach .

Mine is on jack stands right now. On the rear they are under the bogey mount and in the front they are under the part of the frame where the front stub slides into the main frame. If i recall correctly it is doubled and boxed there. I put the jackstands on a pieces of treated 2x12 to keep them from sinking in the rock and to make them more stable.

Try these:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=5461

You can make them any height you want. Just pay attention that the frame must be supported where it is doubled up (by the bogies or where the front subframe meets the side rails) or under the bogie, or under the front main cross member (the one with the front engine mount on it).

Those look awesome! But I think I'll try to go and buy some jack stands from Harbor. Now that I know where to put them. I bought white wheel covers today so my new tires, have a nice new home! lol

Jack stands from Horror Freight are OK I guess, IF I WAS NEVER GOING TO CRAWL UNDER A VEHICLE SUPPORTED ON THEM. I do shop at HF, but never for something my life depended on. If you have a power saw you can make a set for next to nothing in the amount of time it will probably take to get to HF and back. My apologies for being somewhat strident on this but I have had a vehicle fall off jackstands. I encourage you to read ALL my comments on the photosite as to why I build these the way I do.

The stands you have are awesome!
I'm never crawling under the RV with the jack stands. Its just to keep the tires off the ground.

It may make you feel better but it is a total waste of time and money. BTW it is more common that new tires flat spot even after a week of being static.

Perhaps we all do things to ease our mind! It maybe a waste of time, but I'm sure taking the motorhomes weight off the tires when not in use sure can't hurt.

The trick is to keep those tires rolling. That will keep them round. I rotate 2 tires out with new ones every two years. I may be super cautious but I will not run tires 6 years old. I never block the coach for storage.
Just what helps make my life good. Ive blown 2 engines but have never had a flat. Very Happy

How often should the coaches tires be rotated?

You got me. I don't keep them long enough to need rotation.

I recommend weekly. About 100 miles is a good number for a local trip. <GRIN>
