Exactly what do the floorbolts on the GM floor plan (for ex a Glenbrook) tie into? Several of the bolts that hold the front furniture, the dining coaches and the bunk couch, just spin the holes and don't seem to grab on anything. I'm debating tearing out the carpet that I put in a few years ago and putting down some leftover laminate from my basement, but I'm curious how important it is to get those bolts into the holes, especially since several of mine don't seem to catch on anything.

Given that the seats all have seatbelts, I can only assume they are supposed to bolt down into something in the floor besides plywood.

Thanks,
Jeremy Knezek

When I gutted mine most were just screwed into the plywood on the floor,
but the odd one had a bolt that appears to have been underneath the
coach...put some upwards prying on the bolt and see if it will back out.

...when I gutted mine, no bolt or screw went into anything other than subfloor wood. If you want to ancor your seat belts in any way that might HOLD....you will have to re-enforce the floor ancor points with plate steel, or find a way to conect with a cross member. There may be members with other ideas.

my interior is in the middle of this project. The furniture itself goes into the plywood subfloor and nothing else.

The seatbelts are bolted through the floor and into the frame or perhaps the cross straps. In any case they are threaded fittings beneath the plywood subfloor. This is on a 76 Eleganza. Perhaps earlier coaches met different safety standards. I know 1974 ruined many a car cosmetically due to increased safety standards, ride height etc. Perhaps it affected more than that?

Jeremy,
The dinette in my Glenbrook had the same problem.
The wood underneath was old and bolts could not be tightened much.
I used the next larger size lag bolts for a tighter fit.

Bill

That's what it was!!
The seat belts were connected to something solid and were threaded in, and
the rest of the furniture was just screwed into the floor.
I removed all seat belts except for the drivers and passenger seats...I
hope it discourages passengers and since I will be taking my Kingsley with
me, I'm not concerned about the Next owner!

Mike,

Take it with you?

How about like this...

Being an old Mercedes guy, I actually went and saw this back in the 1980's.
Full size MB limo that weighs about 36 tons. Zero MPG.

I especially like the note at the end of the article:

"A side note: In 1988, the brother, Raymond David Tse,
was indicted on murder charges after admitting he fired
18 bullets at a gang member in his Chinatown office who
was demanding protection money at gunpoint. Tse claimed
self defense, and was acquitted in 1991."

For sure. I have a couple of 1956 Tbirds and the bird brains in the local
clubs all want the porthole from the hardtop installed in their caskets. I
think I'll leave the cars behind for the next guy. Besides, I have no idea
of what the roads will be like where I'm going...(lol)

Jerremy,

I have the same headache. Lag bolts work for a while, but rust and vibration does the job we now have.

What I'm thinking of doing, is epoxy stainless threaded insert into the floor ply ( mcmaster-carr # 91731A053 5/16-18, #91713A054 3/8-16 ).

If your holes are too large, epoxy a hard wood dowel in to fill the hole, then use zinc platted lag or wood screws. The last thing I want to do is cut the alum cover under the floor.

Hope this is something you can use.

Exactly what do the floorbolts on the GM floor plan (for ex a Glenbrook) tie into? ...

...
Given that the seats all have seatbelts, I can only assume they are supposed to bolt down into something in the floor besides plywood.

The requirement for seatbelts was only on the FORWARD FACING seats. For most coaches that would be the cockpit seats and one half the dinette. GM provided anchor points at those locations and (most likely) no where else. Here are pictures of my 1973 from the last time this subject came up:

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8276>

If your coach has seatbelts at other locations, I would check to see how they are installed.... they might not be up to the task, and could be more of a danger than a help.

113 ! I love it !!!

Last summer my son was home...........GMC was up on blocks, house kitchen is
torn apart, fireplace half installed in the living room, both workshops (garage
& basement) total disaster areas.......can't find one tool.....

He said "Dad, I think you need to start a few more projects"........

So sad by true.....I need to get organized !

My 77 Kingsley came from the factory with two seat belts on the forward facing dinette and also seatbelts on the side facing couch.

Ray

Be careful - getting organized is a project in it's self!
