Out of curiosity has anyone had problems with the krylon fusion paint not sticking to the plastic? We are trying to paint the wall panels next to the passenger and drivers seats. Maybe we are not cleaning with the proper cleansers. Any ideas or suggestions?

Steve...

You'd be way ahead using SEM products instead of Krylon Fusion. The SEM
stuff seems to literally melt into ABS and vinyl.

I've used fusion on ABS. Cleaned the plastic VERY well and it still
didn't stand up to much abuse. I've used SEM on those ABS side panels,
the dash pad vinyl and door panel vinyl on a car (which my knee rubs
against every day) and NONE of it has come off. In the worse case I've
covering 70s vintage bright blue vinyl with a light gray. NO blue
showing thru in 5 years of knee-rubbing.

I've actually scratched the ABS side panels (in an inconspicuous place)
and you really have to dig deep to get thru the SEM color.

I love Krylon paint. Not impressed with their Fusion stuff...

I used Krylon Fusion and I would not use it again. Not only doesn't it stick but any damaged spot is tough to repaint because it seems to 'melt' the original Fusion coat - but not the underlying plastic.

I'd agree. I've used Fusion on various panels, and it does scratch/chip off with more ease than I'd like to see. It seems to be working fine for the ceiling panels, but perhaps the SEM product may be better for the side panels or dash.

Time will tell...............

Two years ago, I bought SEM paint to match my Odyssey seats and painted the dash and side panels. It's held up good so far.

Time has told for me...

FWIW, I used regular Krylon on the front and rear ceiling caps. I think
I have more faith in that stuff sticking than the Fusion. Back cap
painted for 8 years. Front cap for 7. Both are still all white.

It's interesting reading comments about krylon fusion, i know many people use it, it seemed to easy to get off, and i am not going to spray the whole driver section only to find its going to wear off easily.... all comments are appreciated. Regarding cleaning before painting, do you recommend the use of TSP to get rid of any grease and stuff beforehand ??, can this cause any reaction with SEM paint???.

Regards

Fusion comes up pretty short compared to the usability of SEM vinyl dye.

Regards,

Contrary to what other posters have noted, I have had truly excellent results with Krylon Fusion on every surface I have tried it on. The headliners in my GMC came out very well, along with the window trim. The ugly green plastic sliding panel under the bathroom sink turned out great. The AC interior cover, which was yellow, became like new white.

I have since been using it in my Airstream and Argosy restoration projects, and it even worked well on the yellowed tambor door materials in those rigs, as well as the interior end caps, refrigerator vents and so on.

I am just wondering if the cleaning products you have used somehow have made the surface so it would not take the Fusion paint. This is only speculation. The only cleaning I have done is with windex type cleaner, then thorough drying prior to the paint.

The dash on my GMC had been re painted with the SEM product by a PO, prior to my purchase, so I cannot say I have used Fusion on that.

I used Fusion on my front headliner cap (white) and and front side panels (brown) years ago. I have never had a problem. I am getting ready to drop the rear headliner cap one and do the same to it.
