I have a crack in the point of the front cap that is slowly growing longer. I'm talking about between the 2 front access doors, right above the grill where the SCM comes to a point in the nose.

I suspect it is a stress point there. The crack was maybe 1/2" long when I got the coach in 2008, now its about 2" long.

Anything I can do to repair it, or stop it from getting worse?
thanks

Drilling a small hole at the current end of the crack should keep it from going further. Then v out the crack and repair it with a SMC compatible material.

Bruce, the little piece just under my grille did that. I bought a new one from Frank Jenkins back in 06. Last month I had it painted. Maybe in 4 more years I will install it.
There are folks that put a long threaded rod from one side of the cap to the other. I suspect I will do that when I replace this piece. The rod is supposed to keep this from happening. I think they put it between the headlight buckets.
I am sure others, who have done this, will chime in.
As far as the "fix" on your old cap, I don't know. I hate body work.

Your problem might be similar to Emery's. Look at his solution:

I've heard of the hole trick to stop the spread of a crack.

Maybe mount something using the hole!

Trick out my rig! Laughing

Emery,

Looks like Skip copied your fix!

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=39886

You can just barely see the all thread rod above the bottom of the grill.

One thing, when I got Double Trouble I found the lines from the trans cooler sitting on the all thread, I lifted them up and sure
enough they were chaffed. I wrapped a piece of water hose around each one of them and tie wrapped them in place. When Ken H and I
installed a new aluminum radiator I moved the trans cooler below the A/C condenser and the lines didn't come near it anymore.

Regards,
Rob M.

So did I. The tabs where the "fenders" bolt to the under-grille cross
piece are prone to breaking off; Emery's headlight bucket tie rod will pull
the assembly back together and hold it there.

The all-thread also serves as a convenient anchor point for some of the
springs I use to hold the grille in place.
