Please be on the lookout for our newest GMC owner, Ross Hallman of Ottawa,Canada. Ross left Atlanta today after purchasing my '78 Royale, "White Trash".

Everything went well on our walk around inspection except the furnace wouldn't light. He has 7 days to get this going so he can get insurance. It worked well until this morning when the blower worked but the Suburban furnace didn't light.

Ross is a good guy. I wish him well. The coach performed flawlessly between Americus and Atlanta. I believe he will have an uneventful trip up north. He has the black list so if you are near I-75 and you hear him holler, give him a wave.

Looking for a Royale with rear bath. Wife says it must be "perfect"...just like me!

Stick,

Wouldn't yah know it! Works fine until the new owner shows up!

Your wife's got a good idea on the rear bath Royale, you can sleep in the bed on the passenger side and let your feet hang over the
end.

Regards,
Rob M.

Kick the furnace one or twice while it is staring up. It usually is the sail switch and kicking it will jar it loose and allow it to make connection.

Thanks - I'll call Ross (he's on the road to Canada) and give him that advice. Cussing it doesn't help. I tried that already when it didn't light,

It's 46 and cloudy south of Detroit at I-75 mile marker 30.2. I'm on the Black List if he needs anything near here.

Thanks to all, and sympathies to those who don't have shorts on like I do.

No word today - he has one more night (I think) on the road. No reason to think he won't be fine.

I drove one from Salt Lake City to Florida on winter. No heat the whole way. The owner took it to Jeff Sirum. Jeff hit it once and the furnace started working. Jeff said this was a common failure.

A year or two later I took a Winne from Michigan to California. It had the same problem. I just banged on it a few times immediately after turning it on and the sail switch worked. I had heat for that entire trip.

Mr. Henderson and I had the thing on the bench running a couple of weeks ago. I tried it out earlier in the week. It can't be too bad.

Ken,

This reminds me of the scene in the movie "The Longest Day." There's a British tank stalled on Normandy beach and a British Officer
comes up and tells the tank commander to move up the beach. The tank commander tells him the tank won't start. The Officer says
something along the lines of; "my Father (or was Mother) told me to give mechanical things a rap if they don't work properly!" He
gives the tank a rap with is swagger stick and it starts! "There, now off you go!"

Regards,
Rob M.

Google maps says I-75 to Detroit & 401 E to cut off to Ottawa, 1380 mi. & 24 hr.
                               I-81 to Gananoque & 401 E. is 1270 mi. & 21.5 hr.
He probably went I-75 to miss the bad weather in the east.

A month from to-morrow I will also be in my shorts------in Florida.

Stick, I made it home. The Royale drove near perfect. I live in SW Ontario that's why I went up I75 to Port Huron. Got the clearance from US Customs for the GMC and then across the bridge to pay my excise tax to the Canadian Customs. It was only a 2 hour drive home at that point. Now the adventure begins.

Ross,

Congratulations on you new coach. I'm not surprised you had a trouble-free
trip -- it's really in good mechanical condition according to everything I
saw in working on it with Stick.

I hope you'll stay with us on GMCNet.

My only regret is that your schedule didn't bring you to Americus so we
could meet.

Ken, As speak the royale is in the garage getting a safety inspection. In Ontario all vehicles must pass a safety inspection to get the ownership changed. It drove straight and with no issues. Will get the results tomorrow.
I hope to meet you and many GMC owners in the near future. I have only been on this forum a short time and appeciate the generosity of its members. Ross
