I ordered a 8 pound item from Salt Lake City on the 24th. Today I looked at their tracking site. UPS has the gall to post a delivery date of Nov 1st. If I counted the calendar correctly that is 12 days.

If it absolutely positively has to get there some day, use....... You fill in the blank.

Ken,
You seem to have more problems with UPS than any 100 people I know. It seems that they have your number.

I'm not trying to defend UPS but I must say that with our 42 years in the mail order business and with most of our shipping done via UPS we have, fortunately, not had anywhere near the percentage of problems that have plagued you.

Most companies will allow you to specify a preferred shipping method.

It is not the shipper that has the problems. It is the receiver. They cater to the shipper. The receiver is not normally the one directly paying the bill so they do not care about them. As long as it gets delivered some day, the recipient usually does not say anything. When they do they just get tied up in red tape.

When I ordered this I was in no rush for the item. If I was, I would have gone to some other company that uses Fed-Ex or the post office or carrier pigeon.

Many, many times I do not order things from some sellers because I know they are using UPS.

I hate UPS. Their website doesn't always print the labels on THEIR label paper right, I didn't notice one of the bar codes was missing (there are two???). and when I arrived, the dolt behind the counter couldn't simply reprint it, no, too easy. I had to go to the "customer" computer in the lobby and redo my order, as I could not just re-print it either. that customer computer was such an old piece of shit, it ALSO misprinted the labels, then it BSoD'd. (Blue Screen of Death) and crashed. It took 10 min to reboot, and then the UPS dolt had to go behind a different counter to get the login credentials. I could have filled out a slip in less time.

This is at the UPS facility, not a store. The last three times I had to re-do something. The parking lot is also a kludge, and I have to cross the damn light rail track three times to get there. That's not their fault, but adds to the pain.

To hell with UPS. I prefer FEDEX, but Fedex absolutely Ruined Kinkos. Then there is DHL, their website is worse than a day in hell, and they bought and subsequently killed airborne express, a nice little family company that really actually gave a shit about it's clients.

If it Fits, it ships... USPS actually pretty good.

On another note, I have a neighbor who works there. He hurt himself. His lovely Teamster's Union only pays him $400 a week. If he was a non-union employee, his private disability would be about twice that. He is also in his late-30's. They make old men out of young men by pummeling their bodies in that job. Not worth the $70K+ they make in my opinion, especially in 115 Degree heat. So, what are unions good for?

I don't want to contribute to it but the answer is simple; "taking care of the union leadership!"

In October of 1968 I got hired at Hamilton Standard (HS) in Windsor Locks, CT as a test operator on second shift in the Space
Systems department. There were about four or five of us all hired at the same time so we took breaks together and had "lunch"
together in the company cafeteria.

During the first week a guy walks up to our table and tosses his badge in front of us and says "see that badge number? I was here
during the big strike of 1960 when the Union got us at 10% pay raise across the board!" "You should join the Union to protect
yourselves." Blah, blah, blah.

I asked him what was his job in 1960 and he noted "milling machine operator." I then asked him; "what do you do now?" he noted:
"milling machine operator." My retort: "sounds like you don't get to far being in the union!" He gave me a dirty look, grabbed his
badge, and stormed off. Never bothered us again.

There is an epilogue to this story. I later found out that in exchange for the 10% across the board raise that year, the union
removed the automatic cost of living raise in the contract. About a month after the contract was negotiated the union president went
to work for United Aircraft (UA) as a vice-president. UA was the corporation that owned HS.

Things that make you go Hmmmm?
