Actually the problem would not have been a loose stud in battery termimmal. The current is caried through the interface between the battery terminal and the battery cable. Either the wing nut was not tight, the surfaces of battery terminal was not clean, the surface of the battery cable was not clean, or a washer was placed between battery lug and battery cable. Standards in the marine industry do not allow wing nuts on large battery cables as they do not always get tightened sufficiently and can lead to the problem seen here.
