I noticed in a previous post Steve F. advised auxiliary brakes for the towd.
Is there a preference for any certain brand?

There are several units, but the simplest one to use is the US Gear
Unified System.
Never need to drag a box around at put it on the pedal.
They sell for $12000, but you can get them around $ 930.0
Takes more effort to install, but once in you can jump in and out of
your toad without playing the box.
We have sold several every year and the customers are happy when they
see others needing to play with their box.

I used to use a Brake Buddy but with those it all or nothing. A real pita
to get set up, but easy to xfer from vehicle to vehicle. I sold that unit
because it kept draining the battery in of our toweds. I bought a Patriot,
Blue OX and it is a progressive braking unit that doesn't have a compressor
and storage tank built in to it. It has a remove that you can mount in the
tow unit (velcro) that permits you to adjust the brakes on the towed while
you are driving. You can also activate the towed vehicle brakes manually
without using the towing vehicle brakes. It is high end but seems to work
quite well. It is also transferrable.

I put the Unified Tow Brake from US Brake in my Honda CRV and it works just fine. It is a fair amount of work to install, and would not be easily moved to another vehicle. Once installed, It's much easier to use than the Brake Buddy type of brake which you've got to put in place each time you hook up your toad. With the Unified Tow Brake, you just plug in and go. I bought mine from JimK.

Well, at our age (most of us) we really need to keep moving. If you don't use it, you loose it. We have a Brake Buddy and admittedly it is a PIA to use...at least compared to others. But it makes me move, and contort into positions that I would not ordinarily find myself in. Keeps the ol' body move'n and groove'n. Kind like sex...if you don't use it.....(fill in your own reply) Smile
