Here is an undercounter light I found at Lowes. I am not suggesting these instead of led bulbs or fixtures but believe they could be good additional convenience lighting for areas you may not now have wired.

The light throws an elongated beam -- it uses a lens -- and is quite bright.
They don't do a good job of describing how it attaches magnetically to the base and of how it can be swiveled from the front to the back of the counter, so I posted some photos.
The light goes off after 30 minutes -- makes it pretty neat to use as an exit light or bathroom light.
I picked up four and plan to put one in the closet also. Then if you need to find something on the floor of the closet -- just pull the light off the base and use it hand-held.

They are on special at Lowes online for $9.98. Store price may show as $14.98.

We may also mount one in our car -- under the passenger side dash -- to better illuminate the floor when necessary and to keep a hand-held light close by.

Dennis,

I just ordered one. I want to see how it works in the refrigerator, my original Norcold compressor-type fridge doesn't have a light and sometimes a fridge light would be nice. If it doesn't work good as a fridge light then it will end up being a closet light. Amazing what they can do with LED's today!

A review a the Lowe's website says the following.

"The description doesn't explain the swivel feature very well, so here is
more detail: The base (which mounts under the cabinet with screws or
adhesive) has a magnetic protrusion, kind of a half-circle. The light
itself is a separate piece and has a metal plate in a depression on the
back. The depression fits over the magnetic part of the base. This allows
the light to be directed more toward the front or the back of the counter
maybe 25 degrees or so. Translation: I can move the spot of light about 7"
front-to-back. Since I'm trying to get the front part of my counter lit, I
have it mounted as close to the front of the cabinet as I could get it.
Because the light is a separate part, I can put it on the base with the
switch towards the back and swivel it all the way toward the front. Note
that the swivel is front-to-back only, NOT side-to-side. The display in
the store was not helpful, it didn't move at all since they apparently
glued the light to the base to prevent theft.

"The battery covers twist off a little too easily, I quickly learned to
handle the light in the middle, not the ends. But the fact that the light
detaches from the base makes it super easy to change batteries. Heck, it's
even an easy-to-grab flashlight if the power goes out."

Seems like something handy to have. According to the website, I can pick
some up at the store or order online for the $9.98 price.

Bob,

Will be eager to see how the refrig enviromment will affect the light/batteries. Please let us know how it works out.

There are some LED strips that glue onto an object or into a fixture that put out a lot of light. They are wired but most cabinets have 12vdc anyway.

These are a flexy strip the thickness of paper with the leds attached. They have glue on them, just remove the paper and stick it in place.

They com in cool white, warm white and neutral.

You can trim to any size needed and as I said, put out A LOT OF LIGHT.

Battery lights become a bother because the batteries go flat so this might be of interest.

AllElectronicsCorp has had them and you can find them by searching.

Larry, I have a little "one square" led, soft white, that puts out about 20 lumens. Pretty neat. Can be hard wired and stuck anywhere you need a little light. Great for getting up in middle of the night. It draws so little power it can be left on or switched.

Yes, you have some pretty well set up components. The low light LEDs use very little power, its a coming idea for sure.

There are a couple of LEDs to watch out for, they are called High power leds and really do have a bright light but require a heat sink and use almost as much power as a regular incandescent bulb. They are kinda new to the market.

I had put in some puck lights in the hall and under counter prior to the LED explosion here on the GMC net. I have a switch to pick regular lighting source or the LED source. That option is particularly handy in the hallway where I have halogen/led pucks that come on either / or. The LEDs are great for night driving, esp for the dogs.

Over the stove is Halogen/Led and the main lighting is Floresent / LED strips. My light fixtures are particularly long, cover the entire length of the wall so the LEDs had to be particularly long for somewhat equal light dispersement compared to the floresent lamps. Easy install, 12vdc, switched.. nice lighting.

Great of you to share your find with the group Dan, an EXTRA Scoop of ICE CREAM for you... thanks
