Guy,
I didn't know you were a P3 driver. The South Georgia Technical College has
one on display. As it happens, its log book has entries by a retired Delta
captain friend who lives here. Maybe you're in there too. :-)
That location is at Souther Field, where Charles Lindberg bought his first
airplane, a WWI Jenny, which he soloed here. When I was about 10 yo, around
1947, my Marine pilot uncle, a WWII flight instructor there, took me with
him to investigate purchasing a Jenny -- which they STILL had in the factory
crates!
Hmmm... where's my GMC content?

There just wasn't enough space for everything. I did think about putting
the direction the tires should rotate as well as the PSI, etc. Also
missing is the red stripe around the "fuselage" and some other markings
like BR549 (or whatever).

Ken,
Though I am an airline pilot now, when I was in the Navy I was a Naval
Aircrewman and sat in the back of the P-3 hunting for Soviet submarines
(Aviation Anti Submarine Warfare Operator - Acoustic, for anyone
interested). Now when I travel around the country I am hunting for my next
GMC!

I provided Byron with a photo of one of my squadron's P-3s and he did a
beautiful job combining that with what I had described to him in several
email discussions. Byron not only knows computer graphics, he has a great
artistic eye too. If any of you are contemplating a new paint job, or like
me (for now) just want something to hang on the workshop wall, I would
highly recommend commissioning Byron to do the paint scheme for you. His
fees are VERY reasonable. Talented and cost effective is a great combination
in my book!

As always, Byron has an interesting design to show us.
I had thought the rotation of the tires might be shown with the modern shape, such as what he had used for the mountain in Gatsbys CRUISERs' drawing. But then that may be a bit too modern for such a design as the P relates to.
As always Byron, interesting and obviously very thoughtful...

I think the red stripe (which marks the prop danger zone) would have been a great touch if it was right down the center of the door. <GRIN>

To the dozen guys in my fan base,
I just completed and uploaded my illustration of Great Gadabout, which I
renamed DuQuoin.

While I know everyone has his/her preferences regarding color and where the
stripes should go, this is a faithful image of the vehicle in a show scheme
developed by the GMC design studios for the GMC. All I did was put on alloy
wheels, a different spare tire cover and a new mirror and called it DuQuoin.
The original had Great Gadabout in large, block letters in the empty space
above the beltline and just forward of the rear window.
I'd be sorely tempted to use this scheme on a coach of my own except that
I'd wrap the stripes around the rear under the window instead or taking them
to the top. Either way, I think it's a great design that's strong without
looking like a big box fad.

It is an odd, sad day. I'd like to think that Steve Jobs would have appreciated the engineering of the GMC Motorhome and the simplicity of its lines. A friend was filling up his car in Palo Alto some time ago and Steve Jobs pulled in next to him to fill his Mercedes. The thing that struck my friend is that this Mercedes had no adornments - no 3-pointed star, no badges of any kind. I'll bet he would have deleted the license plate if he could.
It doesn't matter if you are Mac or PC, all of our lives have been improved because he lived.
Somebody posted "iSad." That about sums it up for me.

Jobs' Ferarri had no license plate. He drove it to a meeting we had in a
hotel just east of SJC airport.

Minor correction is in order, Dolph. The Newton was a Scully development.
Jobs killed it within a couple of months after returning to Apple. I never
quite understood the rationale at the time because the next Newton (4th
iteration) was intended to have speech recognition. Here we are, 13 years
later and the new iPhone 4s will have the amazing ability that was in a
video we promoted heavily in 1996 in the "Knowledge Navigator".
Yes, Steve did appreciate the design of the GMC.
