I have updated the photos on the airbags I designed. Several folks had asked for more detailed dimensions. If anyone has anymore questions please feel free to ask.

I need new bags... Is this an off the shelf replacement that needs no mods?

Robin, It doesn't require any modifications to the COACH. While the AIRBAG is "off the shelf" it needs the plates made to match the bag to the coach.

If I understand it correctly: This is a "new" design and "the designer" (Mark) isn't interested in making more for sale. BUT, if someone with the proper tools and skills wanted to make them, it might reduce the cost of going to rallies. (Hint, Hint!)

The bags are current production bags. The mounting plates are custom made. The dimensions in the photos should be sufficiant to make them.

I am not sure what it costs to build these bags but I know Jim K. has a pretty cheap setup on his site, under rear suspension. I am not a fabricator so I buy stuff already built. Just an fyi.

I didn't want to hijack the other thread, so...

I have seen these "other" new airbags on AZ Craigslist for a while now. They
look interesting and there is a youtube video listed in the CL ad.

I'm curious if anyone has these and what they think of them.

JR,

IIRC Mark has noted he's not interested in building and selling them.

Here's Mark's email with the P/N:

The Firestone W01-358-9294 airbags that I used have an internal bump stop that prevents the problem you mentioned. That is one of
the main reasons besides the travel that I choose them.

Here's a link to the bags:

Guy,

I'm not sure which bag Don is using; however, I believe it to be:

Firestone: W01-358-3400; it has a Min. Ht. of 2.75 inches and a Design Height of 6-7 inches. I interpret that to mean it has an
operating range of:

6.00" - 2.75" = 3.25"

or

7.00" - 2.75" = 4.25"

However, it could be:

Firestone: W01-358-7325; it has a Min. Ht. of 3.12 inches and a Design Height of 7-8 inches. I interpret that to mean it has an
operating range of:

7.00" - 3.12" = 3.88"

or

8.00" - 3.12" = 4.88"

I can't seem to find the operating range of the OEM bags, however, I am reasonably confident it is much more than 4.88".

I checked the design specs and neither of these bags have a bump stop in them. I noted that Don deflated them completely in the
video and it appeared that they were compressed to less than 2.75" I don't know if it is OK to do that or not.

Regards,
Rob M.

Being as small as this bag is, I find it hard to believe that it would give a
good ride. Travel is also minimal. Would be interesting to give it a test

I paid $138 each for the bags and have maybe $30 worth of metal torch gas and welding wire in both sides. probably around $300 for both sides. If you cant get someone locally to make the plates I can do it but would not be able to get to it for a few weeks.

I dont have any drawing software on my laptop. I will see what i can do in paint. It is not going to be pretty.... Did you look at that discriptions on the photos. I listed the dimensions in them. Might be kind or hard to interpret. Maybe I will make little signs and put them on the plates and take photos. Hmmmm Let me see what I can do.

Hi Mark

Both SolidEdge and SolidWorks have free 2D CAD packages

SolidEdge 2D is here
http://preview.tinyurl.com/2awf99

SolidWorks is here
http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/download-draftsight/
http://preview.tinyurl.com/2decsjh

I have not used the SolidWorks software but the SolidEdge package is very
good. The learning curve is a bit steep but there is a tutorial that helps.

Your intuitive observation is right on.  Yes, I think the spring rate would be so high that the ride would have to suffer.

Thanks Rob,

The more that I look at all options, the more I am liking the idea of
"Mark's New Airbag". $138 per bag and the end plates are reusable.
