I can't seem to get this electronic choke adjustrd properly....it would appear that the metallic spring is installed backward on the unit.I have the wires connected correctly....the red wire connects from a always on 12v source to the black box of the electronic unit....the white wire connects from a ign. keyed 12v to the black box.....2 black wires come from the black box and connect to the choke unit on the carb...they have female and male connectors so as not to get them mixed....the keyed source allows power to the metallic spring which turns counterclockwise as it heats....Now to my question.....this spring has a hook on the end of it......the carb choke boss that this would POSSIBLY hook underneath to, raises upward as the choke module is turned counterclockwise and the choke closes....then the spring heats up and rotates counterclockewise gradually returning the choke boss and therefore the choke plates to open....if this is correct I have taken my coiled spring off
and reversed it to make this thing work this way....I do not think this is right....what for then the heat sensor attached to block....I have all the literature on this unit....one of my biggest guestions is does the spring hook go under or over the choke boss as it will not INSERT TO or ATTACH TO as the directions call for...thanks for help....this has been along on going problem for me.....it does not work right no matter how many adj I make...brian 455 77 ele with orig mh carb

There is one thing you need to know here;
The grounding is very tricky here, and that can cause delay in heating the coil.
People have advised me that they have seen small arc in the throat of
the carburetor at night .

that in the pic is what I have.....when I apply 12 v to the keyed 12v post on that choke on the shop bench,,,the spring turns counterclockwise unwinding as you look at the spring...brian

that is an electric choke, not electronic...it appears the spring loop fits inside the choke tang on that one and rotates the choke whenever the lectric choke is turned..anyway it is different...brian

OK, now that you've confirmed that we need to look at the series of pictures that Dennis provided the link to:
This is the last picture in the series and as best I can tell the rod that attaches the choke spring to the choke flapper must move
to the right to open the choke:

I realize that this is NOT the same type of choke as you have; however, the spring is wound in opposite direction of the spring in
the choke you have.

Therefore your statement "if this is correct I have taken my coiled spring off and

INSERT TO or ATTACH TO as the directions call for" is that the spring hook goes on top of the "lever arm" inside the choke housing.

really....then I will install the choke ...then turn it counterclockwise so that the backside(not the open side of the hook) will push up against the choke lever.....my hook is rubbercovered.....you would think that the covering is there for a reason....I guess the backside of the hook is rubber covered also....My instructions say engage the hook...Hard to believe there is no reason for the hook...brian... pissed off with this
