So, did anyone miss me?

After my valiant but fruitless effort to get the disc brakes installed and bled on my '76 royale before my Colorado vacation, I am back at it.
For those that don't know, I spent three days after I installed the disc brakes trying to get the lines bled. I was unable to do it in time to use it for my trip.

Work has taken so much time since I returned that I haven't had more than about 20 minutes to work on the GMC this summer. I am hoping that the 20 minutes I spent were worth it. Yesterday before it got too dark, I removed the master cylinder and removed the plunger (pin) from the original power booster and replaced it with the new pin that goes with the new sensitized power booster I have still to install. The new pin is about 1/4" longer than the original pin so I am hoping that it compresses the plunger in the master cylinder enough to give me effective brakes.

Unfortunately, it was quite dark when I finished, so I didn't get a chance to test it. I didn't relish the idea of finding I didn't have any brakes and stopping the GMC by hitting the RV across the way!

I hope I haven't missed too much here!

Bob, if you are talking about the operating rod that goes between the brake
pedal linkage, and the master cylinder, the adjustment for that is fairly
critical. When everything is installed and the engine is running, there
should be between 1/8 to 1/4" distance between the pedal linkage and the
operating rod. If the new setup is too long, the Master cylinder pistons
will not uncover the bleed ports, and no fluid can travel from the
resevoirs to the cylinder. Be sure that the MC piston retracts completely
against the snap ring in the end of the MC bore when your foot is off the
pedal. There is good info in the Maintence Manual on the adjustment.

Jim,

Thanks for the information. I will check it out when I get back to the lot in a couple days.
