G'day,

Here's how to send money via Pay Pal so the recipient doesn't get charged to receive it:

1) Log into Pay Pal
2) Click on Send Money tab
3) Click on Personal tab
4) Click on "gift" bullet

Not sure of the other bullets work.

Regards,
Rob M.

PS - You guys didn't think I came up with a way of getting FREE MONEY from Pay Pal did yah? ;-)

When I have tried this in the past, all that happened was that the sender was charged the fees instead of the reciever. I have both a Canadian & a US PayPal acct and it was the same for both.

I'm curious as to what others have experienced.

Paypal seems to have a feature for legitimate gifts -- but is subject to abuse by those trying to avoid paying transaction fees for regular business or sale exchanges.

Les,

Looking at the personal option on my US Paypal account -- sending money for gift or the other tabs has no fee for sender nor recepient, unless you use a credit card -- at least for the amounts I used for a trial -- $1 and $30. This was also with the US -- no foreign exchange.

Dennis,

I should have noted that my Pay Pal account is US based as that's where all my funds are.

I should have noted that it doesn't work with a credit card.

I don't know what happens if try sending money across borders, however, I doubt it will be free. It might be if the recipient's Pay
Pal account is setup for US Dollars. Mine is setup for USD, AUD, English pounds, and Euro.

Regards,
Rob

Rob,

Yes, it is good to know how the "personal" feature works. Whenever I pay internationally I almost always use a credit card -- if it is a purchase -- for the added protection should the item not be received.

Anyone wanting to try can go to their Paypal account, input a payment to a recepient in their contact list and stop short of comfirming -- but still see what fee will be charged and to whom.

Dennis,

I use my credit card to pay for EVERYTHING I buy over the internet. If the company or individual won't accept credit card payment
and it's a significant amount I check their full contact details (AFAIK you can only do that after you buy something from somebody).
I check the information against other sources (the White Pages, Google search) and if the info jives I send them the money.

I came up with this system after being burned a couple of times and since I instituted it I haven't had any problems.

I am willing to send payments to people I know and trust in cash from my bank account.

Regards,
Rob
