Do the SS plates ever fail? It would be more expensive than the SS plates, but, other than that, would it make sense to weld cast iron plugs into the manifold openings? I read somewhere that someone had the openings in the heads plugged that way, but why not the intake manifold?

I filled my manifold with furnace cement (cause it had a crack in it). I welded the crossover with my wire feed welder. Not a great weld job as the manifold is cast iron but it backs up the stainless inserts real good. I used 404 Mr Gasket gaskets that I modified to accept the stainless inserts.

Welding cast metal is not something an average person can accomplish
without failer.
Ask a good knowledgeable welder.
The SS plate works as the heat does not flow past the plate.
It just pulses against it so the temperature build up is not as severe.

The plates do not fail, ever. I've pulled them after 20K miles and they
polished up like new. Zero corrosion.

| Thanks Jim. If anyone has heard of a failure, I expect you would have.
I wasn't thinking about welding it myself, rather taking it to a place where they weld heads. They should be able to do the job.
