The story on tonight's news showed the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge at night. The tower is up and the construction lights roughly replicate what the permanent lights will look like. And that's the view we'll have at Desmond's 2nd annual Fleet Week rally.

We live in a very pretty place!

Is there anything left of the old Seaplane Terminal on Treasure Island?

The old Seaplane Terminal? I wouldn't know what to look for. There are plenty of old buildings, hangars, if you will, with CCC period ornamentation. They are probably from the Pan Pacific Expo. We park facing Seaplane cove, that is now a marina. And just beyond the cove is the Bay Bridge.

Californians are usually known for quicker action than we're seeing with the Bay Bridge. The eastern span was damaged in the earthquake of 1989 and it's still not done! The new span was to be a simple causeway, just a flat slab of concrete. This did not appeal to then Mayor Jerry Brown of Oakland, and so we now are building a very beautiful suspension bridge at many times the cost, and many more years of construction.

It will only raise the toll on all the Caltrans bridges 'till the end of my days.

What is the schedule for the rally? I have not seen anything - did I miss something?

Hi guys,

I haven't been able to read the list as consistently as I used to. It is true that we're getting together again for Fleet Week on TI. GMC 49ers backed me up getting the insurance that we needed and I just finished the permit application. They tell me it's all in order, but I don't have the official stamp yet.

That dates we have blocked are Oct 6- Oct 10. I've got room for 50 coaches.

The mailing list for announcements is at: http://lists.gggmc.org/listinfo.cgi/fleetweek-gggmc.org Subscribe there for all of the latest info. If you subscribe through that page, you'll be able to read the archives.

Please respond to me directly as I don't always catch up here.

Not only is it still there, we will be staying directly in front of that seaplane terminal.
