So many of you are working on trannys and etal, I thought I would
remind you of a good use for that old ATF.

here is an old post from JR .
http://www.gmcmotorhome.info/skin.html#RUSTED

Since I am living in the land of rust and corrosion for the summer, (
Florence, Or.), I am filling every oil can and Gene's bottle with this
mix, and squirting it on every hinge, bolt, fastener, etc, that I can
find.

http://goo.gl/jfMXo

good luck

Does it matter whether the ATF is synthetic, synthetic blend, or just regular ATF??

Les,

Nope, as Gene said it just has to be old! Just kidding, I have no idea actually.

Having said that I just checked and the Apr-May 2007 issue of Machinists Workshop is available and I've ordered it.

Once I get it I'll scan the article and post it to the Photo Site for everyone to read.

Oops, maybe I shouldn't have said that, I could get arrested and extradited to the USA for copyright infringement!

Regards,
Rob M.

Thanks. I hope you checked Google Books b4 you ordered the magazine. Sometimes they have scanned older issues. FYI and nothing to do with this thread, I stumbled on articles about a motorcycle/sidecar trip across Africa in a 1937 issue.

Les,

Never heard of Google Books!

Nope but I did check half a dozen Google links and came up empty handed. The copy was only $5.75 plus postage.

Gene,

I'm like KenB a creature of the night, no fangs though!

And one of my cats likes breakfast at around 6:30 - 7:00 so I get "serenaded" to wake up and if I don't I get a gentle paw poking me
on the cheek until I do!

Billy was kind enough for the link, however, if you note there were 23,600 hits so I tried "Testing Different Types of Penetrating
Oils" and there were 13,100 hits. You'll just have to wait until I get my copy, scan it, and send it to you for posting on your
website.

Hmmm, maybe I better send you a hard copy so you can scan and post it, that way I won't risk getting arrested and extradited back to
the USA for trial. Maybe if I get convicted I can convince them to send me back to Australia, it as a prison colony after all!

Regards,
Rob M.

Hmmm, you're probably right! She'll probably be happy to be rid of the seppo! ;-0

Today's lesson in Strine slang.

Seppo / Septic tank - an American (rhyming slang for Yank).

More below:

Joe Blake - snake (rhyming slang).
Captain Cook - look (noun)
Dead horse - Tomato sauce (ketchup)
Harold Holt, to do the - To bolt Note: Harold Holt was a Prime Minister of Australia that disappeared when taking a swim in the
ocean.

Regards,
Rob M.

I just finished another online search for this penetrating oil article. Lots of forums (recent and not so recent dates) show the end result of the testing. None had the complete article. So, I guess we will have to wait for your hard copy to be circulated.

Ih high school, I dated the (beautiful) daughter of an Aussie woman who'd married an Air Force career type who retire to my little town.  She (the mother) usually waited up for us to return from the movie or wherever, and always bade me farewell with the Aussie idiom to 'keep smiling'.  I don't think she ever realized the effect it had on a Southern boy in that situation.

Johnny,

It's a good thing you never told her Mom that you thought her daughter had a nice "fanny" trying to be polite.

Downunder a girl's "fanny" is in front not the back!

And that's no Porkie Pie (lie)!

Rob M.
