G'day,

The thought came to me as I was reading the thread "Boston to San Francisco
Road Trip" that it might be a good idea to create a list of GMCer "approved"
RV Parks, places to visit, things to do like the Service Provider
Recommendations List.

What do all ya'll reckon?

Regards,
Rob M.

Mate,

Darn good idea. I like the thinking. In fact, I'll volunteer to assemble a
page for posting such info and a page for submitting info. I think we all
would trust the authenticity of information (or else learn to say that
Jack doesn't know sh-t). A web page like that could be updated when
information was submitted. Arrange it by state, etc. and it would be a
great GMCers travel guide. I'd especially like a listing of RV parks. Of
course, the places to visit and things to do would be great, too. Say,
this would give Fodor a run for their money, Woodall too.

Rob, you can put our "rv park" on the list. 20 miles west of I-57 and I-55 Junction, at the south end. 20 amp and wifi. The price is better than any others, free. Room for two GMCs.

Byron,

Thanks for volunteering to set this up, let us know when it's ready for data
entry.

I would suggest that it include a field noting when the place was visited
and a field for updates to keep it current.

For example when Helen and I stayed at Liberty Island RV Park the showers
and laundry were OK a year or two later Marsha found the showers to be bad.

Another example is Spectrac on the Service Provider Recommendations List;
Steve F. rescinded his recommendation because the place went downhill!

Dan, I really like your RV park - the food was good too. Does that "room for 2 GMCs" include yours?

Dan and Teri have stayed at my RV park in Idaho. 300' of river frontage, 30 amp hookups, water, dump 4 miles down the road. Free to GMC's and Airstreams. Food is marginal, unless we go out. WiFi available. No cell service. Satellite TV probably won't work unless you have a portable dish and a long cord. Come and see for yourself. Room for two rigs, usually.

I hate to add to the project but an MS Streets and Trips file is essential. Many times I have no idea where I will end up at the end of the day. If I had an EST file of recommended locations that would show up on my route as I rolled along it would be a great asset. A listing just by town name does not help if you are not familiar with the area. As an example who has ever heard of Palmer or Leroy, Indiana but both are within 5 or 6 miles of a major interstate (I-65) and there is camping facilities available at a county park there. I'm not recommending this site.

I discussed this with Kim several weeks ago. She was interested in
adding a data base of suggested places to visit/stay on the GMCMHI
website. Mapping it is an excellent idea.
So, check with her -- we certainly don't need to duplicate efforts.

I guess it depends on timing as to whether we provide Throwed Rolls or not. We always can provide good BBQ though as that is what our town is known for. 2 visiting GMC coaches. I can move mine. I will leave the cord out for you even if we are not home.

Mapping would be relatively simple using Google Maps. The website would
provide the link to BatchGeo. The Black List is handled that way. Check
out how it's done here http://www.gmceast.com/technical/blacklist-geo/

Agree, there needs to be no duplication of effort. Wherever and however
it's done there need to be good descriptions by those who submit the
information along with a street address.

By the way, have any of you downloaded Woodall's application for mobile
devices?

This is a great idea. We're always looking for good campgrounds and I've found Woodall's and Fodors these days are just getting paid to list campgrounds without actually lining up with the glowing descriptions. When you are ready to go, I've got a few recommendations!

Dan,

Throwed rolls at Lambert's are always good.

But, I have to warn you - their are BBQ people reading the mail from Memphis
- the BBQ capital of the civilized world. Be careful...

And besides - "It's all your fault"!

Hope you're having fur.

A great side benefit is knowing ahead of time which campground areas allow
"veteran" (old) motor homes.

Avoiding duplication of effort is a good thing.

Rob Allen,
Your RV Park sounds like a great place to visit. If we take a northern route back from Boston and you're at home in late September; perhaps we can stop by and I can supply a critique for the new "GMC'er Recommended Places" What town are you near?
