A question on the cooling updates from 73 to 78 pictures supplied. The bigger rad shroud is bigger on one side, Which direction will it have to go back in?

Jay,
On my 73 the gap is on the drivers side of the radiator (left hand side looking forward) -- so the bigger side goes to cover that area.

Jay,
While you are at it, you may want to consider splitting the shroud. I know there are some picture shows as to how to do that. If you do the split shroud it makes future maintenance much easier because you can drop the bottom half of the shroud to gain access from underneath.

Great thanks guys I thought how I had it in the picture would be right but thought I would ask,
rssbob thanks for the split the shroud suggestion I haven't even thought of that, But I did find this info which I did tonight to make the next time in easy.
Love this site it makes all these projects enjoyable and really cuts out most of the swearing.

I have so little time between events that we run with the Mini Roadracing to work on my special passion my GMC coach's. It always seems I have only one day to do any project so this site is so vital!!
The issue I run 34 race events yearly, Have to deal with 140+ (most times) A liitle bit anal race members, 31 club race bikes, 70 sets of leathers and race gear, and a lawn that never gets mowed, Oh and I somehow work full time? Selling Bikes at one of the busiest Motorcycle shops in North America.

Jay,
The photo you linked to shows the split in the radiator mount, not the
shroud. Just to be sure you understand: If you cut the fiberglass fan
shroud in two horizontally, you can then easily remove only the lower 1/2 to
accomplish almost any front-of-the-engine task.
Measure the width of the shroud about 1/2 way up, then prepare two pairs of
1" aluminum angles of that length by securing them into an inverted "T" with
screws (captive threads on one side only). Rivet or bolt one of those pairs
horizontally on each side of the shroud where you want the shroud to
separate; screw heads should be on the bottom side. Then cut the fiberglass
between the two angle pairs.
When the shroud's mounted, there will be only your added vertical screws and
2-3 screws across the bottom to remove to drop the bottom half of the
shroud.
