Actually, I feel Marsha should cover the cost of gas for the coach. She
was going to do that anyway should the coach had been in a driveable
condition. Randy & Margie not only were $$ contributors in the beginning,
but stepped forward and gave time and more $$ to see this rescue completed;
their personal car gas mileage and lodging should be paid out of the rescue
fund at the minimum. I thought the response from the GMCnet and Forum
users for the rescue fund was disappointing; 16 gave $905. Surely most of
you that are reading this message could have stepped forward with $5, the
cost of a Big Mac meal or a cup of coffee at Starbucks. JMO

JR,

It's nice and great that people did help Marsha out. ... but to
to call out anyone who didn't donate time or money is not in the spirit of giving. If you want a RV (and this isn't her first) you should have the means to do it. There are way more important things in life than an RV. ..... like making sure you have food and a roof over your head. No one should expect everyone else to pay for their recreation. I just payed an invoice with the same amount of money for a necessity (anyone want to contribute?). Don't get me wrong I do donate $$ and time to things like "Make a Wish Foundation" and Medical College of Virginia.

....just my rant.

Thank you. I've been dealing with this very unpopular subject for some time now. I bought my coach sight unseen and drove it 500 miles home. Don't buy if you can't handle it. What's going to happen to this when it gets home? I commend those who gave and more to those on the road with it.

This sort of reminds me of church, clubs and every foundation that does
charitable work. For me the situation is this: My wife and I believe in
doing our part and certainly don't mind exceeding 10% or our income
(sounds familiar to those of Judeo-Christian orientation) but we do have
to choose. I can't give something to everyone that has their hand our nor
can anyone else. Guilt trips do nothing to help a cause. The joy of giving
to something you believe in provides the reason.

Thank You Byron and Jim,

When Marsha first talked about this so called adventure, I told my wife this
is going to be a disaster in the making. First let me say that I do not know
Marsha, and I don't mean any disrespect to her. I am on the black list and
if anyone ever is in this area and needs help, I will do anything in my
power to help to get them on the road. If you want to by an RV and expect me
to help get it home before you even buy it, You can count me out, I have
barely enough money to work on mine that I still can't use after almost 8
months. If that is something that makes some of you feel good, that's great
and more power to you for helping her out but don't put a comment later
that tries to put people on a guilt trip, its just not the right thing to do
" I thought the response from the GMCnet and Forum Users for the rescue
fund was disappointing; 16 gave $905. Surely most of You that are reading
this message could have stepped forward with $5"

Marsha, if you are ever in this area, and have trouble with your GMC, please
feel free to call, I will be there to help. This has nothing to do with you
but more of the situation that has come up. I am new to this group, I think
it's probably the best group I have ever come across. I lurked on the list
for almost 2 years before I purchased my 73, this list is what made me sure
that I wanted a GMC. They have always been there for me to answer questions
and sometimes some not so smart ones.

Hope I didn't offend anyone.

Wow, I don't get it. Something exceptional is happening here. We are witness to a very good thing.

Marsha contributed her story to the list and posted pictures of part of her adventure - a rather cute ugly beast she removed from the coach. The story, like so many here, touched some of us. When it was clear that the coach needed more attention than her family was prepared for she sadly shared that with us as well and prepared to sell it. Some of us thought it silly to sell simply because it was so far from home and organized a possum rescue.

This rescue made us feel good. Helping others can be a lot of fun. Marsha was reluctant at first to let us have our fun and then so very touched by the gesture. I'm almost embarrassed to insinuate myself into this happy mob, as I only tossed in a few bucks, when others travelled and sweated and worked. Dave allowed his own children to prefer the Possum Hideout to his flat nosed Revcon! Now we are witness to two saints driving and fixing the coach on it's way home.

Goodness happens, but it rarely makes the news. We get to watch kindness unfold in front of us. I love the whole story, and I'm glad to be associated with this group of goofballs.

Thank you. I want to thank all of you for participating in this forum that brings me joy.

Now, just for Dan, it's time to get some ice cream!

I feel compelled to respond as I started this whole thing when i shared pictures of the Coach last summer.

Marsha did not jump into this with any expectations of assistance. It was offered by me and others.

When she arrived in Norfolk she was gracious and had wonderful GMC gifts for me and Tom (I'd have preferred a REVCON gift)

She may have been guilty of underestimating the scope of the project but who among us not done that?

She had some personal circumsances that are not anyone's business but that may have knocked the wind from her sails after she arrived in Virginia.

After that the coach landed at my house. The goal was to try to sell it.

With a more detailed assessment of the coach, and the freedom to work on it on my property before the sale we thought we were making progress.

Several people inquired but no buyer was found.

i continued to keep everyone aware of the situaion and said it may end up getting parted out. During this period Marsha took some public and undeserved citicism for not being able to save the coach but no one else in geographic proximity was ready to jump in.

At some point someone said "what would it take to save it" and the fund was born.

I don't think it matters how many or how few gave. It's perfectly ok for someone to opt out even if hey have the means, if they don't feel it's a worthwhile use of their resources.

For those that pariticipated, we had a good time. Our feelings about how good a time we had will change in the future depending on how Marsha's restoration and preservation turn out.

For Randy and Margie i may take longer Smile

It has arrived! It is so wonderful! I am so very excited! (ok, I'm using up all my allotted ! for the month).
I want to thank all those involved. Everyone has been wonderful. I cannot thank you enough. Without everyone's support this couldn't have happened. So, thank you all so very much.

Now, what to do first....

Although I agree that the GMC motorhome is under-represented in my area, I don't need to have them all. What I need to to infect others with the GMC bug (already infected one other). That way I will have more company.
Pictures have been taken, just need to figure out how to upload them. I'm going to start my list of what I need to do tonight. Then I just need to prioritize. Then on to the want to do list.
Randy and Margie are wonderful people (but aren't all GMCers?). Wouldn't take up up on my offer for lunch. But hopefully we will see each other at rallys in the future.

Please take some pictures and let us know your impressions while the moment is fresh.  And open the ice cream for Randy and Margie!
