What weight can be put on the roof?

I see in the photo archive that someone put propane tanks on the roof and I would like to duplicate that as propane is about 40% the cost of gas here.

I had a propane powered vehicle that ran just great and would like to reduce the running costs.

How would you fill them?
Climbing up a ladder dragging a heavy hose doesn't look too safe.
There has been quite a bit of discussion on this a while ago.

I saw pictures of a fellow who had two big propane tanks in the overhead box and filled it from a hose in the propane compartment.

I had a couple 454 Chev trucks that ran on propane. If there was a simple way to adapt it to a GMC I would be interested. But I would keep the tanks as low as possible.

I just looked at Pilot/Flying J fuel prices and I don't think converting to
LPG in the USA makes economic sense. In NY and FL it was about $3.00 gallon
which was only marginally less than regular gas.

I agree with you vis-ŕ-vis the tanks.

AND, that price at Flying J is without the road tax that they would tag on if they are filling tanks for the vehicle engine.
That price is for burning it in a refrigerator, furnace, etc.

Road taxes would include the $0.18 Federal and whatever state tax is also added.
