The other day Dan mentioned that I live among all sorts of 'varmints'. While working on my brakes the other day. I looked up to see a coyote running up the driveway about 30 feet away from me. A day or two later, I walked around the right front of the coach to come upon a king snake that was slithering past the left front of the coach. This morning Kathy looked outside to see a 4' Diamondback on our back patio.

I thought some of you guys might be amused by a couple of pics:

Jeez. I never see that around here, only the occasional lost coyote foraging for puppies and cats. My biggest problem is Black Widows under the coach if it sits too long.

We actually have a surprising number of all kinds of rodents from Harris Ground squirrels, Round Tailed ground squirrels, Cotton Tail Rabbits, the occasional Jack Rabit, Pack Rats, Deer mice, Kangaroo Rats, etc. Not enough snakes and the Bobcats don't come around often enough.

That's why I keep light ropes on under my coach at night (for the Pack Rats), and have a service to remove Pack Rats.

I'm with you, I prefer the kitty cat to the others.

Chr$, We live out in the desert just North of town, not in a suburban subdivision. We even see Javelina and Gila Monsters from time to time, but, curiously, not many Black Widows. They seem to like the more urban area more.

Cherish the king snake. I have a picture in my files that shows a large King snake swallowing a large Diamondback.

Up here, the deer are invading the gardens. Out the back of my place I have a plum tree that has evidence of a black bear visit every night.

Jim,

I lived in PA. from age 12 to age 17. Personally I'd rather put up with an occasional rattlesnake sighting than cold and snow all winter. Very Happy

Winter,

The cacti are not so dangerous, unless you try to handle them, or fall on one! Around here, if you're a plant, you have to be heavily armed or taste really bad, to survive.

Emery,

I love to see those King snakes, Gopher snakes and Bull snakes around. I used to kill the rattlers when I had little kids around the house, but now I just am careful not to scare them and be scared in return.

Harry,

We have the same problem with rabits. If we try to plant something (besides a cactus) they eat it as soon as it comes up. The Bobcats help! Smile

Here in Santa Fe we have the cayotes, Jack rabbits and whitetail rabbits, lots of Pack Rats (wood rats) and Deer Mice and rarely see a Lynx (bobcat).

The pack rats love to make big nests on top of the GMC engine and on top of the Onan. Over the years they have chewed up a lot of Onan and engine wiring.
Now that I have moved the GMC to its motorhome garage in Colorado I won't have to worry about the pack rats anymore and hope that there won't be any mice in the GMC either.

Here in Santa Fe my house in on two acres in the middle of a "minature" forest of Pinon (pine) trees and Juniper trees. I had about 400 trees on my lot but with the Pine bark problem I lost about 150 of the Pinon trees. The junipers have large berries and the Pinons have pine nuts which the rodents just love. I have even found stashes of berries and nuts in the rear cupboard of my motorhome in the past. I have also had the mice build nests in the blower motors of my GMC, Jeep and Tracker. One can use the car one day and by the next day there is a nest in the heater box.

Don't think I don't keep my eyes open when I visit Carl. After dark, I make him go with me.
Really, Carl has a nice place. Problem is, the varmits think so too.

Well, Bob and I want to come to your zoo. If it moves, we want to get a
good look.

In the Piney Woods of Texas, we have deer, coyote, fox, bald eagle, wild
pigs, copperheads, coral snakes, and in almost 30 years, no rattlesnakes
near house, but we know they live there. Oh, we also have
alligators, nutria, and beaver in the river and lots of song birds that we
feed. Gosh, sounds like we don't need to go anywhere to see wildlife.

Chuck,

I don't know what you are talking about.

You have two legs. One just came from a different supplier. As someone that was an aftermarket guy for a lot of years, I would be personally offended if you think the replacement is less than an effective replacement for most services.
