To remove the Onan starter:
1. Disconnect the battery cable or open the disconnect switch if you have one.
2. Remove the one nut holding the battery cable to the stater solenoid. There also is one more wire on that same stud that needs to be removed.
3. Remove the single small wire to the starter solenoid. It is a push on connector.
4. Remove the two mounting bolts or nuts holding the starter in place and slide the starter in towards the coach. I believe it is a 9/16" socket wrench.
That's it. You are done.
It took me longer to type this note then it is going to take you to remove the starter. (I'm a terrible typist).

While you have it out you might have it rebuilt, I just had my Onan 6K starter rebuilt with new drive gear and bushings by local Onan authorized repair center for 54 bucks, they even put machinist bluing on the drive gear so I can check the teeth alignment with the ring gear on the flywheel. Wish I would of done this long ago, like new! If I had done it when I replaced the broken mounting bracket (3yrs ago) would have saved me 15 minutes.
Quite easy job to pull and re-install.

Yes, I just had mine rebuilt locally. New bushings, brushes, solenoid and drive gear. They also turned commutator. I did not have them paint it when it was done. Total cost was $50.00. Hopefully it will last another 30 years.
