I dug into my AC unit last night.
Pulled the heater core and tried to pull the evap.
This is on a '75 transmode with a recirculation Door
I found 6 screws holding it all together, 2 up by the Fan, 2 on the drivers side under the heater core and 2 holding the metal lines onto the airbox.
It still wouldn't budge.
What am I missing? Did GM use those special high inaccessiem screws again?
I did loosen the bottom of the box and felt behind the evaporator and it feels clean, and blowing compressed air though it only blew out a few bugs. So I may not NEED to remove it....

Keith,
When I removed my evaporator, I had to use a sharp putty knife to cut
through the tar-like material sealing it top and bottom. I don't remember
how many screws were holding it, but some of them were found by the probing
putty knife. Heating the knife blade might help with the cutting -- if the
handle's not plastic. Maybe a heat gun directed at the tar too? Or come
here and the tar will probably run out by itself. :-)

I used a heat gun on mine and it worked great.
I was afraid I would damage the evap. with a knife.

really? The tar along the top is that strong??
I was pulling pretty good, and the bottom is free so it must be really stuck!

Yes the tar is that strong. Actually some kind of a tar/cork material as I recall. But a sharp putty knife will generally cut through it, if it does not instantly reseal itself.
