Hello all,
It is John Arbuckle and I am going to make a mad dash and try to
finish our 1976 Palm Beach in the next couple of weeks. I have
brainstormed and conjured up most all materials to do the job. Missing
only a few things. I plan on replacing the headliner with FRP. Does
anyone have any idea what I could substitute for the aluminum strips
that were holding the headliner up and covering the seams. The
original stuff was destroyed. And the strip of very brittle plastic
that ran along the seam separating the headliner and the skins around
the windows. ( the one that hid all the wiring) when we removed it, it
disintegrated. Any ideas would be great. These are very important
parts an I am drawing blanks. Thank you again everyone.

We take a 1/4 plywood and wrap it with the vinyl or smiler head liner
material and use small buttons over the screws.
As for the joint cover we use a aluminum extrusion that has the space
to tuck in the plastic strip to cover the screws.
We can ship the strips pre cut with the filler, our colors are mostly
off white and are paint able . There are some colored plastic strips
we can supply to match.

Hello,
some people use fairly thin wood strips in place of the original aluminium strips, and drill holes in the appropriate places. I guess you could also utilize some aluminum strips and replace, the old ones. Possibly i would think plastics of the right thickness and strength would work also say acrylic,i have considered trhis myself. The internet is good for finding out which plastics and strips , could be utilized. I believe crown moulding can be used to recover the old plastic used to cover the wires etc, the right sort has a arch/grove in the back to allow for the wires. Maybe if you used wood for both , you could match them up

Like a mule being prodded to go, Rob sent me this thread to my other Email to chime in. I was scanning the net yesterday and saw this thread and thought to myself-- oops, there's a mistake getting ready to be made but did not want to ruffle feathers so I did not respond.
OK, ok, I'll say something---- restoring your coach to the glory which makes you happy is a once in a lifetime thing and it should be done to please the owner first, not anyone else and not done on a budget or time schedule. On your death bed you wanna be able to say-- I did it my way so don;t do a "mad dash" to get it done. You will have yourself in the morning! Take your time on everything, it will always bugg you if you don't.
Why is it when you resore a car and someone makes a comment like "Wowm that's nice" we immediatly start pointing out the flaws? I guess it's just our nature, so don;t cut corners, it will be the first thing someone sees and the first thing you always talk about.
As a wise man once said, They are never done", and it's so true. It will be a work in progress forever if you love your coach and as soon as you think you are done, you will always find something else to do-- that too seems to be human nature. Whatever the state the coach is in, when you wanna go somewhere just go. Get it first in proper mechanical condition then get out there and use it. If you wait until it's "finished" you will never get to drive it!
As far as the pieces/parts you seek, I do have a really nice "H" mold for the headliner panels but along with them there is a mod I do to be able to use them and make the headliner more stable and easier to install. It's the way I do it and far be it from me to tell you it has to be done that way. I do not use "FRP", does not work for me and in my view causes problems. Many use it and I am not saying they are wrong-- there are many paths to enlightenment == glasshoppa" The panels between the ceiling and walls are covered with a section of 1x4, routed out and edge trimmed held on the oval head self tapper screws through the wood into the aluminum channel. This can be taken off easy retaining the idea of a "wire chase" to run more wires someday and you know that will happen so plan for it.
I change things on the interior redo to accomodate for future maintenance and updating-- make panels removable and leave ways to route wiring and such. I do not get in a hurry, those designer resto shows are stupid and wrong-- you do not rush perfection-- I mean are you here to make a nice machine or hit a manufactured timetable?
Don;t worry about making some arbitrary time to make a rally, there are important things to base your life around anf "finishing" you motorhome should not be one of them! As in the words of Cat Stevens "Take your time, think alote, why think of everything you've go for you (and your GMC) will still be here tomorrow but your dreams may not"

I understand that you sell through the bumper 2 inch receiver hitches.
Well I need one in a bad way. I am in Tucson and would like to know
the cost as well as how long would it take to ship here. If you could
