we Dropped the Holding tank last week to find out what was causing the leak. was I surprised to find the very large area on the side rather open. decided to try and repair even though the MM tells me it is not possible. don't know how long it will hold "water" but it seem to do its job when we were out this weekend.

Maybe in the market for a replacement tank in the future. anybody removing a single tank to go to a twin tank setup?

Once you replace everything that is attached to something else. It will all be fixed.

Adam,
That looks like a pretty good patch. With the expanding foam and the mechanical fasteners, I'd say there is a pretty good chance of that holding up for the long term.
That should serve as a reminder to the rest of us to check our exhaust systems for leaks!

Looks like a good job. As a question to the group, has anyone tried "eternabond" which is a roof seam sealer with incredible adhesion and overall strength. The ads for it show it being used for cracked water tanks in addition to the roof uses. I have some of it, but don't have any cracked tanks (thank goodness) to repair. It is a pretty amazing product, sticks to everything. Anyone used it?

Rob, I don't know what your time is worth to you. It does not take too many
hours of fiddling around with a 35 year old cracked plastic tank to cover
the cost of a new one. Email Duane Simmons and inquire about the cost of a
new tank. Better materials and outlets exactly where you want them with no
worrisome temporary repairs to lurk around waiting for the most inopportune
time possible to fail again. I hate messing with the stinky things so much
that I will just about replace the whole thing tanks, plumbing and all,
before I will attempt a patch job.
