Got tired of trying to cover the fogged bottom edge on our windshield with paint. I couldn't find any that would last.
Decided to try using automotive vinyl that I found on ebay.We seldom use the wipers (love RainX) so that shouldn't be a problem. The vinyl is rated for 7 years so hopefully it will last a while.

Looks great! Give us an update on how well it does last. Short of painting the glass on the inside surface, this may be a very viable option till you decide to replace the windshield.

Neat idea, Jim. Now, what is the gauge that's attached to the mirror?
Just nosey!

If it was on the inside, you would still see it from outside.

Roger,
That is a fuel pressure gauge. It will pick up any problems with fuel delivery.

Jim That sure looks great. I replaced my origional wipers with the transport version and had to raise the arms up some to get the wipeing area correct. It looks like that vinyl would actually be below where my blade stops. Got to go get a ruler and use some swag to figure this out. Any name on the vinyl?

Lynn,
I shopped ebay and bought from MetroRestyling.com. You can use code metroflyer10 to save $2.00 at checkout. I bought a piece 24" X 6'

Jim,

Did you buy just one 6' piece and then cut it to fit on the glass?

I have about 150' x 16" of black seven year life vinyl if anyone is
interested.

Tom,
One of the photos shows the templete I made. The 24" x 6' piece was large enough to cut out left and right side pieces.
Sounds like you have enough vinyl to cover a lot of fog.
You might want to bring it to the GMCMI rally in goshen.

I may not make Goshen, but I could cut a lot of pieces on my plotter and
send them up for those that want them.. I also have an almost unlimited
supply of high density waterproof foam that is the same material that people
are using on the heater/AC doors. I have that in 1/8" (preferred if your
door is snug) or 1/4" if the door is loose. Bet I already deleted your
template for the fog blockers!

Have to get rid of this stuff - way too much junk around here,,,

I do like the look of the vinyl even if the windshield wasn't fogged (which mine is). I sure would like to know how it holds up to the windshield wipers.

thats a great idea for covering the fog. but wouldnt it be nicer to "hit a low limb" and have insurance replace the glass?

my drivers side is new, passenger side is fogging.. need to find a low limb of my own!

If you are going to try to cheat the insurance company why not just hit it with a hammer?

Donovan,

Apart from the fraud issue, there are other things you should consider here as well.
- The insurer gets to pick the shop that will do the replacement and supplier.
- That shop left me with glass all over the cab, and when I complained, they sent a guy in with an air hose to blow the glass shards off the driver's seat.
- I ended up with a windshield leak that dripped on the steering wheel and rusted the horn button - ON.
- I had to clean the worthless sealant out of the top gasket area myself (PITA)or take it 40+ miles to the shop and wait two weeks for them to think about redoing it correctly with good materials.
- It took the insurer two weeks to organize getting the new glass into the shop so they could (sort of) do the job. The coach was unusable during that time.

I took a hit right in the mullion that broke glass on both sides - driver's was worst - and I know that they did not get the mullion straight before they put the glass in, but it doesn't seem to leak but it is ugly.

fI suspect that if the glass is fogged the insurance co will replace it even if it's not broken.
