Every now & then, there's been some chatter on here about fuel usage with the Onan running to power both of the roof A/C's versus running with the dash A/C on.
Unless my math is wrong, which, of course, it never is (???), it seems to me that running with the Onan going uses a little less fuel then using the dash A/C - Not to mention the increased power without the drag on the coach engine and the more even interior cooling which benefits our 4 dogs while on the road.
I've tried to find some definitive stats on this on the various sites & postings but can't seem to.....which, I guess, is normal, because according to my wife, I can't find anything.
Is my math & theory wrong - anyone have any thoughts or stats on this?
Thanks,
Steve Nowak

Steve,
I reckon running the numbers would not be anywhere as accurate as doing it.
Give it a go next time you take your GMC out for a trip.

What is that old engineering theory? Statistics never lie, but statisticians
frequently do! <Grin> Your results may vary.

Jim,
To quote Mrs. Gardner, fifth grade math teacher; "figures don't lie but lots
of liars figure!"
Or:
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
Popularized by Mark Twain who attributed it to British Prime Minister
Benjamin Disraeli.

Some time ago I posted the following,
I tried using the Onan and the roof air instead of the Dash air, after 2 trips totally 1700 miles, I found that the difference in MPG dropped from 8.9 with the dash air to 6.8 with the Onan and roof air.
It may well be that my Onan is not set up right but it sure starts and runs nicely.

I no longer have the original Onan in my coach, but the Generac I replaced it with uses 1/2 gallon/hour at full load. If you were getting 10 mpg at 60mph, you'd burn 6 gallons in one hour just driving down the road.
Adding another 1/2 gallon to that amount would drop the fuel consumption down to 9.23 mpg (assuming I remember my algebra correctly) if you're traveling at 60 mph.

with only one roof ac on sitting in drive way i got better than 2 hours off one gallon. so i assume sine my wife rides at sofa a,d ac cooling her, then onan and roof ac much better than dash ac.
