Mention was made of finding out when a coach was last registered.

Would someone explain how that might be done?

I am in the great state of California.

In California, you can go to the DMV. They have a form you fill out
that will ask them to give you all of the information that they have
on a vehicle that you own (I tried to get owner info on an abandoned
1970 Gremlin, but they turned me down). Pay the necessary government
fee, and a couple of weeks later you'll get something in the mail. I
found that if there was a break in the registration process (like
something is out of the system) you will only get the latest info. I
was really disappointed with the results I got on a 1969 Meyers Manx
buggy that I bought, but that was just my experience.

carfax and similar sites will only work for 1980 and later vehicles with 17 digit VINs........

make friends with a car dealer who deals with the DMV almost every day and they can pull strings...............

On a 30 y/o, everything is going to be spotty.  I'm nornmally only interested in a clear title, and Georgia will give me that based on a bill odf sakle and the physical vehicle in front of them.
