I took my leaking exhaust manifold off to replace gaskets and found out both
manifold were broken, and I broke off one of the bolts.

Any suggestions on installing headers or getting out the bolt?

Thanks,

Bernd

I know lots of guys like keeping the manifolds. But, I am a fan of headers for no more problems. Fix that once and be done with it. There wont be any performance gain, just makes the future brighter. One less thing to worry with. Id jump on Paul's offer.

I don't know about the 403, but Jim K suggests that the center bolt (above all the rest) isn't necessary. Is that the one that broke?

If not I'm guessing you're in for some time with an EZ-Out or some other way to extract the problem child.

Talked to a mechanic that frequently works on old vehicles... He suggested
taking a torch and burning off the heads BEFORE you attempt to remove them.
Then you can pull the manifolds/headers and soak in your favorite rust
breaker. I think he said he just welds a rod to each bolt. Claims he
never brakes one off in the head.

Joe, which aluminum intake did you use. Did it come blocked, or did you use the block-off plates? Thanks

I used the Edelbrock Performer #27111 Olds 403 Aluminum Intake Manifold ~
W & D Tooling, {owned by my neighbor}, filled and plugged the exaust
crossover with Aluminum then machined the intake to specs `

I am well pleased with the results ~

{ scroll down to see the finished intake }
