Hi there all
Just sold my old chevy tracker 4 wheel drive. Bought a newer Suzuki Vitara as a towd. Low mileage and like new interior. New truck is automatic and two wheel drive. What is best way to tow my new little truck
Thanks

Check the owners manual to see if it is possible.

Driveline disconnect device is probably the best solution for an Automatic
transmission car that is towed 4 wheels down. That is a popular towd, I am
sure there is something on the RV market that will work.

It is normally a good idea to have this answer BEFORE buying the prospective towd.

For the most part, two wheel vehicles with automatic transmissions do not make very good towds. There are exceptions but I am fairly sure yours is NOT one of them.

If you check your owners manual, I bet you'll find that you need to tow it with the rear wheels off the ground. My owners manual (1996 Sidekick) shows a two wheel drive on a dolly... backwards.

That said, you can modify >almost< anything so it can be towd four down. They have pumps and disconnects... some solutions cost more than the towd is worth.

A two wheel drive version of a four wheel drive should be fairly easy. You could just install a transfer case from the 4x4 version. As you are only using it as a drive-line disconnect, you do not need to connect the front output to anything. (I read that the "tail" of a 1st gen Tracker/Sidekick 2wd automatic is the same length as a transfer case.)

Best place I know of for info on towables is Remco http://www.remcotowing.com/. They're partial to Blue Ox, but will use others if necessary for the application. They also have a tech line (800-228-2481 X 230). Ask for Jim if he's still there. He may be able to help you with additional info, but I think you're OOL on the 2-wheel drive.
