I have uploaded a few more pics into a new album on the photo site for those that were interested in the tensioner mod I did on the alternator bracket. It should be pretty straight forward for anyone who knows how to drill a hole in something. Rolling Eyes Just make sure you drill the hole for the thrust base as close as possible to the bottom of the adjusting slot. If you drill it too low you will run into the lockdown bolt hitting the engine bracket and limiting the "pivoting" movement of the adjuster. You may also need to shim the thrust base out with a washer or two in order to make sure the adjuster bolt lines up in the divot of the base properly. Good luck and happy one handed belt adjusting! Surprised

Thanks Paul, this is a mod we will all do ( sooner or later, one way or
another.)

http://goo.gl/bQ2Db

we just need someone to make a current version, so we do not have to
scrounge the wrecking yards to find them ;>)

This appliance, with the proper alignment of the belt, will probably ,
eliminate the perceived, need for the dual pulley, and using two belts,
modification.

thanks

For anyone who is looking through "the mall" for parts, I have see the same type set-up on 1994 Mazdas. That leads me to believe that they can be found on many different 1980 and 1990 cars and trucks. It also would seem that if the donor motor was a Olds v-8 (small block from the time frame) the whole bracket assembly could be used... at least on a 403.

The next time I am at the mall, and have time, I'll look for more types of donors.

MY readings seem to indicate they these were used on most GM 5.0 liter (308ci) engines from the 80s - 90s, so they may be available. We don't have many in the Chicagoland area anymore, but if someone finds some, I'm sure folks would appreciate adding this easy modification to simplify belt tensioning.
