Conversation in the airbag thread got me to wondering.
I have never played with these. Would two consumer 4-sensor systems
(thus cheaper than an 8 sensor pro system) work on the same vehicle?
Call it one system for the back 4 tires, and another system for the
front two tires and the two airags? Do they atually give you the
pressure, or just Hi-Ok-Low?
I like the idea of knowing damn near exactly what the pressure is in
each of my tires and airbags.

For what it is worth, we have a system that also measures temps. It alarmed on a sudden rise in temp on a rear wheel bearing before it seized/broke, etc.
It was so hot that when I stopped it caught the brake fluid on fire. That was a moment, but quickly extinguished.
Ironically, this happened 10 miles from home at the end of a 3,000 mile plus trip.
I am pretty sure it is a "SmartTire" system - however from their website they don't make it or support it anymore.

Robin,
As an old motorcycle tourer I got into the habit of checking my tire
pressure daily on the bike. I don't do it daily on the GMC as I don't
believe it's necessary. I do check it every couple of days while filling up
with gas as gives you something to do instead of just standing there
waiting.
I think a tire pressure monitoring system is a good idea, however, it's a
bit down on the list of upgrades.
As far as monitoring the pressures in the air bags that's not necessary nor
will it really tell you anything as the system is automatic and adjusts the
pressure to maintain a preset ride height. In doing so it fluctuates a fair
bit.
Raise your coaches up as high as they'll go and then inspect the air bags
for wear. It is important to look at the inside that faces the wheel well
with a mirror. A number of people have noted that they were shocked at what
they saw when they did so.
Peruse Gene's website as there is a lot of good info on the rear airbags
there:

I am a big time supporter of the Smartire System. It is the system that I put on our class 8 Tractors. Yes, technically the RV system is not available anymore, but I am sure if there was enough demand, I could talk the supplier into selling me a few sets.
I ran a "demo" system on my F150, have a "demo" system for my motorcycle, and am trying to get a system for the GMC. I know way more about tire temperature and pressure issues than I ever wanted to know. I have also helped design a very costly system for Prevost Bus in Canada, but we all know they are big $$ buses/motorhomes.
Temp is important, Pressure is also important, a screw on valve stem sensor will not give you temp readings.
The display is a typical 2" round gauge.
As for monitoring the towd, if the antenna was mounted at the rear of the coach, it should pick it up also, I have not tested signal strength yet with one antenna on our coaches. The only issue would be you would have to reprogram it if you ever drove the coach without the towd or you would get messages telling you the towd tires are flat.
Once I get my hands on a system, I can do this. It is always possible to add a second or third antenna.
Let me know the interest, and I will see what I can do.
As a side note, Canada mandates Tire Temperature Monitoring on New Manufactured Public Buses.
