Anyone traveling in Illinois near the North East side of the state, be ready for slow travel and detour.

We had a storm come in from the West, blowing to the East. We had winds at about 80MPH and much tree damage. We have many roads blocked by fallen tree debre and detours are going miles out of the way.

the weather has cleared up and clean up teams are trying to clear the way but it will take hours if not days.

Power is out all over the area, I am on the GMC generator at this time, not bad for an Oh NO Onan, lolololol

I would suggest traveling around the area for the next day or so while clean up continues to bring us back to normal.

Travel update...

funny you should post this, I just had the same experience with this morning's storm. Hit faster than I've ever seen before.

Well we are on our third day without power. The Oh No ONAN has done well up to today. After a good run, I noticed what seems to be oil dripping from the front area under the shroud. I saw the drips on the ground.
Wont 'be able to do much till this mess is over.
Street clean up is fair but we still have some blocked roads. Power is pretty much non-existant. Was just told of a station that raised his gas price a buck when this hit. I thought there were laws against that.
Frankly, I have not seen ComED anywere.
I know they downsized when EXELON took over so they don't have a lot of crews to do the work anymore. more money for CEO to take home.
I saw a fellow that said he still had power but his lines were underground. ComED had that option but said it was cost prohibitive. I wonder if they would say that today???

I did a drive around, our local golf course was destroyed, I saw some homes that took direct hits from some pretty big trees. Even the limbs that missed the houses are a pretty big problem. I lost a vent off the garage, and a couple tile from the roof, pretty lucky I think. Still some driveways blocked by debri. the piles of tree limbs and trunks along the roadways are endless and in some places we still can see tree limbs hanging from the wires. The only good thing out of this is ComED isnt making many money.....oh well, life does go on... lol

Hanging in there....

ComEd has crews out everywhere. They start with the main line feeds and work down from there. Several Main line towers were blown down. Our local utility company sent additional crews over there to help out as have other utilities. It is not just your area. Straight line winds of 115 to 130 were recorded all across the state from Moline east to Lake Michigan.
