There are a lot of posts in this board related to Onans and their problems, not so much about Kohlers (although it appears they were OEM on some GMCs). I haven't fired it up yet, but...
The manual says that the minimum octane rating for it is 90. Since it will use fuel from the same source as the 455, and I had not considered feeding the 455 anything other than 87 octane, what consequences should I expect? Early demise of the generator? Degraded performance (inability to run both rooftop ACs)? Any Kohler owners out there that can speak from experience?

5 years with 6.5 onan using the regular grade of fuel and I live in Indiana and alcohol laced fuel is everywhere. My Onan runs both roof A/Cs and water heater and mirowave at the same time on whatever is in the coach's tanks. Don't worry be happy it runs.

I am not completely sure but I think they calculate octane differently than they did when the manual was written.
As long as the 455 runs on the gas, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hamilto,
Do not worry about.
As mike said, the published octane ratings changed massively buy government rules in the late 80's(iirc). What an engineer writing specifications in the 70's would have called a 92 octane regular would now be sold as an 87 regular-grade. The reason the manual says 90 is because lower than that in those days was almost kerosene.
It is early in a long day, so I will not go into this a great depth unless asked.
