I have a concern:  The turn signals on my coach operate even when the ignition is in the lock popsition.  I know the emergency flasher should still operate, but the turn signals?  The ignition is off - I even checked at the HEI.  Instruments are off.  Niormal?  Or eerie? It's a '76 transmide.

thanks,

Johnny

Johnny,

My turn signals always work also. I haven't moved nor jumped anything
-- 'cause that's the way it's supposed to be.

I just checked the wiring diagrams for '75 & '77 Transmodes and MH's.
That's too small a sample to be certain, but apparently Transmodes'
Turn Signals are powered from the Battery Buss. The MH's' are powered
from the Ignition Buss. The Hazard Warning Lights are powered from
the Battery Buss in all cases.

Big Surprise for me!

I was afraid of that.  Chance to see how closely it follows the schematic in the book I suppose.

OK, I feel better then.  I suppose I could move the feed, but I'll leave it like it is.  Wonder why they done it that way... except maybe with all the batteries in the front, some ppot figured they saved a dime's worth of wire abnd a lug's worth of labor.
Anyway thanks, I won't worry over it further.
You go Gadsden in a couple weeks?  The BWD will wag his tail for you.

Johnny,

I'm sure the power source could be changed right at the fuse panel
with no extra wire. I've thought about it. But it has the advantage
that when checking lights after hooking up the toad, I don't have to
leave the ignition on -- just leave the driver's window open, reach
through it, and flip the lever.

I'm looking forward to seeing the BWD. :-)

A jumper or someone rewired and hooked them to a HOT instead of Keyed.
Shouldn't be too hard to find. But, it's not a show stopper, if they're not
left on they won't draw any current.

There ya go, Ken "splained" it very well, now it makes sense. Our coach went
to Coachmen as a transmode, I'll have to see if ours work all the time.

Mine are the same way. I believe mine came with them "hot".

Believe it or not, What you are describing is NORMAL OPERATION. I chased it down one time in the wiring diagrams. It was something to do with how they integrated the 4 way flasher and turn signal switch. I do not remember exactly any more.

I was thinking the same thing... I seemed to remember checking the towd lights by reaching in the driver's window and turning on the the blinkers and running lights. This is on my '73 ex-PaintD. (GM upfitted) and '77/'78 Birchavens (Transmodes). I wasn't going to comment with out double checking.

Mike, I bet we have a lot of owners running out today to see if the blinkers work with no key.
