What are the dates of your fall 2011 rally? Are they in conflict with the Eastern states rally scheduled in Milan, Michigan on September 16-18? Just trying to plan ahead...

JR,
Tell me more about your rally -- I can't find info on the web site.
I don't know why "we" (GMCES) chose to be in conflict. I might prefer
to join y'all to visit with a different group of friends this time --
though I'd prefer to see everyone.

All Y'all,
Here are some facts regarding the decision for the rally at Milan by GMC
Eastern States.
1) There is some membership overlap.
2) Great Lakers did have their rally planned earlier that Eastern States.
3) There are new owners around that area that aren't members of either club
and may not be members of GMCMI. Therefore, the opportunity to gather new
members is present - I, for one, think new members are next in importance to
active officers for a group to be healthy - the rest is self-explanatory.
4) How many good-weather weekends are there in that part of the country
before campers start complaining about it being cold?
5) How many campgrounds are there with open dates that can handle a group
that wants seminars and a common eating area for 80 or 90 folks?
At Dillard we discussed having our rally within the GMCMI convention but, in
all honesty, a club looses some identity when doing that. For instance, at
DuQuoin those of us from ES knew who we were but to the rest of you we were
just there early. The decision was made to look for a campground with
meeting facilities and open dates as early as possible after GMCMI in Goshen
so those wanting to attend both could do so easily. Any earlier in September
and the Labor Day holiday becomes an issue.
Now, if September were longer, several campgrounds with enclosed facilities
for 100 available, and warm weather (highs in 70s and lows in 40s) existed
to then maybe there wouldn't have been a conflict. The problem at that point
would have been the ES guys who attend MI would complain by saying "why am I
driving back up there just two or three weeks apart?"
Sometimes there's just no way way to win.
Trust me, we didn't think it was an ideal situation but it is what is it.
If, however, GMCMI had been in, say, Oklahoma they we probably could have
picked another time (but the college football fans would complain).
This leads me to a question and a critical statement -- who's the rally
scheduling sheriff? If a person relies on the web for information you'll see
no dates at the Great Lakers site. Because some members of clubs inform me
I'm able to keep the schedule somewhat accurate based on the information I'm
provided as the webmaster of Eastern States. http://www.gmceast.com/rallies/
Again, I'm not happy with the conflict but it is what it is. The nice thing
is folks get to pick and choose. Ain't America great?

It's all in your mind. Just think, you can stand around a campfire and
actually appreciate the heat. LOL
Actually, 49 is low enough for me and 76 is just right from 7 AM to 10 PM.
Maybe this is why I like being Palo Alto/Cupertino area. Shoot, they think
they're having a heat wave when it gets to 84 two days in a row.

Larry wrote on Thu, 30 June 2011 20:39 | OK, so the question is not answered yet...what are the dates for the ES rally? Is it direct conflict or overlap...or what? Specific dates would be nice as I cannot find on ES web site.
Thanks
