Teri and I are saving money for gas so we can attend the August event in Madison. I have asked before with no response. Thought since it only a short time away now others might know if they are going. We would rather park with our GMC friends than with SOBs we do not know. Let us know if you will be there. IF we go in together we can park together.

Dan,
You might see if y'all can park with the RoadTrek group -- arrange it
beforehand so you're assigned the right entrance. Tell 'em it's
partially because of the small size of the coach -- like theirs.
At Perry, FMCA did that. Roadtrek had predicted about twice as many
attendees as they had (my estimate was even worse), so there was LOTS
of room for all of us. GMCers who had not come in with us were able
to join us because of the wide open spaces. The parking crews, and
their boss, were much more flexible than the 'phone folks.

Dan,
Personal testimony here. When we were in Perry we were waved into another
area. After about an hour I walked over to another volunteer directing
traffic and pointed to where I wanted to be. The person said "I can't tell
you to move and I can't tell you not to move." So, I moved up by the GMCers
just behind those RoadTreks with their Honda generators.
Wow, you get about 12 of those Honda's running at 8 AM and the musician in
my wants to tune them up so they're at least purring in harmony. Of course,
the old Onan's have a favorite pitch and tune.
To answer your question -- The Dotson's are planning to go to Wisconsin;
Gene is holding court for GMCWS and Joan, of course, is the top dog for
Eastern States. I'm thinking of going but will, of course, be in an SOB not
that I'm a PO.
I'm also thinking about an FMCA committee to jump on.

HI Dan,
There are actually a number of us from the Greater Midwest Classics going. If you want to join us, contact the Weidner's...that's us, or John Smyrski the Classic's rep to FMCA. When you fill out the form, just say that you want to park with the Weidner's, or Smyrski's. Then we will coordinate where and when we meet to all go in together.
Now, that being said, are you still interested??

Larry,
You're putting the pressure on. Good job.
I'll let you know our decision by Monday.
OK, you other folks within easy driving range, plan to be there. The FMCA
gatherings aren't just about new, big rigs. They have some good seminars on
a variety of subjects plus you get to look at all the new coaches and think
how you've saved money.

Good.
Get over here BEFORE the Goshen rally and we will fix your AC again. You can then fix my KPC 9612+ problem.

Going to the EAA convention is not that expensive and it's a great time. Get a
camping spot an hour or so away and drive there for the day. I've been there 5
or 6 times, definitely a great day there.

You would bring up Oshkosh. That's on my bucket list.

It's expensive. We use to go every year but it has turned to out of site admission and camping fees. If you go, and want to park or camp cheaper, get off of US41 at exit 113 start up the east side frontage road. In a few hundred feet turn right on Waupaun Road. Take Waupaun road NE until it ends at Knapp St. Immediately turn hard left into the private farm and park there. You are right across the street from the Ultralight entrance and not far from the "Theater in the Woods".
This is dry camping in a farmer's field but you are right where you want to be. You can also go to the main EAA campground which is a little nicer for about 2 times the price. It is located just north of this private farm but you will probably end up 1/2 to 3/4 mile away from the entrance to the show and have to walk or ride the occasional tram back and forth to the main gate. Also at the EAA campground they charge you for all of the remaining days until it is over with a 3 day minimum stay. If you leave early they will give you a refund when you leave. I have not seen any plug ins there but they claim to have a few for $43 a night and you must stay or at least pay for the entire week. There are restrooms with showers I believe. Paul Bartz can tell you more. I never stay there because I do not like all of the walking to get from the campground to the actual show. I do enough walking once I get in the gate.
Admission fees are out of sight. $37.00 a day for non-members.
Sign up for the EAA ($40) and admission drops to $25 per day, $21 per day for spouse, and 17 per day for under age 18.
I cost me $100 last year for 3 people for one day after playing all of the discounts and renewing my EAA membership. We use to go up there, stay for 3 to 5 days until we got tied of it, and then leave. Many years Laurie would drive up and I would fly in. Then on Friday I would fly back home and pick up my daughter so she could spend the week end. They have raised the admission fees so high that we no longer do that.
From the EAA site:
****************************************************************
On-Site Camping
One of the most popular ways to experience EAA AirVenture is to camp, whether drive-in camping in Camp Scholler or under the wing of your own airplane. You’ll be located right on the AirVenture grounds and be a part of the unique community of aviation enthusiasts. 2011 general camping rates are $22 per night with a three-day minimum, and at least one person in your party must be an EAA member. You can Join Now or join on-site.
Camp Scholler (Drive-In Camping)
Camp Scholler is located adjacent to the EAA Convention grounds. Individual campsites are available for tents and vehicles of all sizes (including large RVs). Amenities include: Two general stores, convenient access to the Fly-In Theater and Theater in the Woods evening entertainment, free public Wi-Fi, an internet café, food services, shower facilities, RV pumping station and portable pumping services. Designated camping areas are also available for the handicapped, 24-hour generator use, and those who bring pets (bringing pets is generally discouraged, however).
New for 2011: Attendees staying in Camp Scholler can now pre-purchase camping for any arrival date. Advance purchase provides the convenience of express registration at the campground entrance, including specially designated lines on peak arrival days.
A limited number of camp sites are available with water and electrical hook-ups in Camp Scholler. The campsites with the new hookups are available at $43 per day and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the limited number of improved sites, they are only offered based on a stay through the end of the event with no refunds for unused days.
All sites in Camp Scholler are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t worry - there are always plenty of sites available!
*****************************************************************
Last year the air shows were very poor during the week. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shows are much better.
If you have never been there, It is worth visiting for a few days. Just bring Dave Greenberg's credit card when you come.
