[GMCnet] Steering Stabilizer Shock [message #132132]

My 78 Royal has the stock steering stabilizer . Would there be any advantage
to installing a larger one. On the 4X4 sites they even use 2 shocks

Frank,

Do you feel bumps feeding back into the steering wheel? I didn't when
I didn't even have one installed. If not, why bother? Unless you're
going off road & rock climbing.

If you seriously want one, I noticed today that I still have the
essentially new "Safe-T-Plus" that I removed from the new front clip
several years ago. I'll let it go cheap.

Frank,

IMHO the OEM steering stabilizer is fine. If you are not happy with the way
your GMC steers I would suggest you check each component one by one as per
this:

HOWEVER, I was advised that you CANNOT check the tie rod ends with the coach
up on jack stands because the ball and socket are not in the correct
position. The coach must be sitting on all six wheels with the steering
wheel set to drive straight down the road. I verified this at the Bean
Station Rally in May when I checked three GMC's. The GMC's I checked were
driven over a pit and I have to figure out how to check the tie rod ends
without having the GMC over a pit.

I have also learned of a component in the steering column that if worn could
cause steering slop which I will include in the revised version.

I don't fell anything as the coach is up on blocks. I have a safety plus
on my 75 and it is difficult to adjust.
