Dan,
All GMC's came with the TH425 transmission, a variant of the same one
used in the Olds Toronado and the Cad Eldorado from 1966 to 1978.
For the sake of organization, it's always best to start a new subject
thread, by creating a completely new message, rather than "hijacking"
an existing thread on another subject. Thanks.

I always thought it might have worked for him. But what would they cost today??
I like the dash in the drawing but I would have tried to change the window glass. I don't mind a pillar where the side glass comes together to meet the front glass. And if it cuts the price of a window down, even better.
I thought I read the molds for the panels are rusting, perhaps beyond recovery now. And is the process even available anymore to make those panels???
With what we know today, the body frame needs to be beefed up to prevent the old age bulge, which makes our doors look like they do not fit the door frame anymore.
Maybe even the vehicle frame beefed up a bit.
And good insulation with windows with reflective tint to keep the heat out.

From a regulatory point of view. Can you manufacture something 35 years old, or must it meet today's requirements? The Ford V-10 Triton with the 4EOD set beside it would be a natural. Wonder what it would cost to build the chain case and final drive castings......

I don't think anyone ever started out to defraud (I'm tired of the word
Scam) anyone of anything. People have dreams and if they can get enough
investors on board, others who buy into the dream, there is a chance that
success will follow.
Guys like John DeLorean, Preston Tucker, and the Dodge Brothers had a dream
in mind, not a Scam !

Understanding how the car test stations work, it would have to meet todays standards.
Should not be that tough, there are good choices. I am unsure if the front wheel drive can be continued today, but I don't know whats available.

When I had my GMC, and about 2006, I was camping in a Forest Service Campground on highway 12 in Idaho. A fellow came over to talk, and about GMC's. It was Don Wheat, and a nicer guy you could not ever meet. He told me he had all the financing lined up, had a factory leased, and without warning one of the banks involved pulled the 7 to 10 million line of credit he had established (I can't recall the exact number). Was totally out of his control and killed the project.
He (at that time) owned a plant which manufactured high line truck campers in Oregon, again the name is also gone from me now. He still owned a GMC then, but was camping in one of his truck campers.
Yes, he had a dream, and it did not come to pass, but even years later when I talked to him, I had no feeling whatsoever that the dream was a scam.

Well, you got to wonder... is there room in there for a 3208 (Cat) and a T4 Allison like you see in smaller busses? You'd have to work out the drive axles, but it would make a hell of a coach.

Now, "the rest of the story" (you didn't really expect me to let this pass without some comments did you ;^)
GMC was looking for someone to sell the motorhome rights to. I was told that AM General built 2 prototypes and decided not to preceed any further (have no idea what happened to them, probably scrapped them so the development effort could be written off.
Next was Don Wheat, he in fact had hired several ex-GMC execs. as key people. He spent some time finding a location to manufacture his MH and ended up at Rancho Cucomuga, CA. He never actually completed a WMC MH, but bought 2 GMCs from I believe Tony Bell (Jim Bounds might know more). At first he said the WMC was going to use the GM 454, later the word was he would use the Ford 460.
I spoke with Don W several years ago, he sounded like he was trying to still revive the WMC, ever the consumate salesman.
NOTE: Don't forget that GMC built a coach with a TRANSVERSE 454 (turn it around and you don't have to worry about running a shaft thru the oil pan. (see page 313 of my history CD for several options GMC was looking at.
