Sir: I have had issues with the groung wire that is fastened to one of the blower motor housing, usually in the back. Sometines a little larger screw helps.

It could be many things including the N/C contact on the fan relay, or a dirty fuse holder. Your are going to have to get out a voltmeter and trace the problem down. The key must be on and the fan switch on to troubleshoot this problem. You might turn the key on and unplug the HEI while you are trouble shooting this problem for a long time.
The engine only needs to be running for the highest speed of the fan. So do not trouble shoot this in the highest speed without the engine running.
A very common problem is for the fan relay contacts and terminals to burn. You might want to unplug the fan relay and examine the relay terminals before starting to meter out the fan circuit.

Jim, you know there will be wifi if Ken is there.
I got a fan that runs in the low and high positions only. But, same speed on both. I have not tried to figure it out yet. Maybe after I get this compressor swapped again.

I'm perfectly willing to take it back. Now that I've done a similar
seal replacement, I can do that and hold it for my son or for later
resale. I think it should have lasted longer than that & I don't see
how you could have damaged it.

Jim,
At this point all I can say is I do not know. We have a very conscientious convention manager and I'm sure she is working on it. If she contacts me, and she knows to call if necessary, I look into it more. The last two conventions already had everything we needed so I did not have to do anything. If she calls I'll take a ride over here and check out the place. I assume it is in the same location that we went to a few years back. Wasn't that Ralph's last convention?
If I happen to be going that way to pick up GMC windshields from the warehouse, I'll take an hour or two and survey the place for WiFi. It is a little over 100 miles over there.

I don't see why not, despite the fact that I've never done but the one
which I recently did, and that on an R4. Sure would be a lot better
if someone had the correct tools rather than the jury-rigged affairs I
used.
In other words, someone with more experience and tools should do it.

I might try to replace the front seal on my A6 air conditioning compressor this weekend. I bought an inexpensive tool kit from ebay, and if it works I'd be happy to loan it out for the demonstration and any subsequent seal jobs.
Here are some pictures of the double-lip seal kit and the tool kit.

That seal kit is not the correct part number for an A6, however I understand it is a superior design to the ceramic seal. It is supposed to replace the seal and the cage. I'm hoping that my Harbor Freight impact wrench will be sufficient to remove the clutch nut and a little luck and elbow grease to get the clutch off. If not, I'll rent/borrow the tool.
If this tool kit is of any use for your demonstration I'll gladly ship it out after I've used it.

Thank you for the seal kit and tool information.
As for removing the clutch -- once you take out the snap ring, the nut is pretty easy to remove. I found it easier with the clutch holding tool. And a puller to remove the driven portion was a necessity for me.

Larry,
The second tool from the left looks like the seal puller I was trying
to find. The two right ones might be the clutch remover & installer.
That looks like a nifty kit. Did the seller have more? If not, I may
indeed want to borrow it.
Your impact wrench will surely remove the nut on the shaft. Then the
clutch puller screws into the female threads in the hub; the forcing
screw then bears on the end of the shaft. You'll need something to
hold the clutch plate from turning while you do those two steps. They
make a special tool for that, but I just gripped the circumference of
the clutch with my "coconut cracker" water pump pliers.
The left tool in your kit MAY be for removing the retaining C-clip.
If not, you'll need long-nosed retaining ring pliers to reach it --
though that may not be as much of a problem on the A-6 as on the R-4.
Otherwise, it's a straightforward task.
