Short version: I have succeeded in getting the Barn Queen out and
safely into her new kingdom at the RV park. But the overhead garage
door of the Barn decided to jump the track NOW of all times, and the
new owner is less than thrilled.

It happened on my watch, so I feel responsible, despite umpty years of
neglect. It had been working just fine.

I think I may have to call a Garage Door Guy. I suspect it's a simple
fix. Does anybody have any experience with this sort of thing and can
tell me whether this is a 50/100/200 dollar job?

Video of the Queen later.

Hi Robin,

If all looks somewhat sano, you could try to bump a wheel back in to the track or unbolt one wheel from the door *with the door down* and re-engage it, but besides that...really, leave it to someone with experience, especially for a big door.

There's springs and nasty stuff on those things that can kill. Couldn't be more than a couple hundred worst case, but let a pro say what happened if it isn't truly obvious.

Then I thought again - is this a rolling door i.e. horizontal rail with a couple of wheels? If so, just jack it up or lever it and get the wheel back on track. Don't drop the whole door on your foot - or pinch another finger.

1. Garage doors are not rocket surgery.

2. Garage doors have springs with "lots" of stored energy just waiting to bite you.

3. If you know how to respect the hazards repair isn't hard.

4. Learning what and how to respect the door can get you hurt.

On my two car garage with two single doors, I paid a professional to replace the spring on one door and adjust my other door. BUT I watched and "helped" just to the point of being in the way... Now I can do the work myself... and have.

There are places on the net that sell parts and have instructions... but like Gord said, "There's springs and nasty stuff on those things that can kill."

If you are not sure of what you are doing....

I second Rob: "Pictures, please."
