I have a friend who is converting a Toronado torsion bar suspension to RideTech air bags. Does anyone here know if this has been done before?

In case you're wondering, it's the whole Toronado drivetrain, suspension, etc installed in the rear of an Ultra Van.

Thanks!
Owen

Cussed and discussed often. What is he using for leveling valves to
maintain ride height?

I would expect.... nothing.

Just set the heights manually.

But he could use air pressure.

How about the leveling valves from the air ride cab of just about any modern over the road truck? they are about the same size as the ones on the back and use the same size hose fittings. I was thinking about this last weekend as i tried to level the coach on an uneven parking spot at the lake. Had to use a bunch of 2x8s because the front was way too high.

G'day,

JimB is playing with this idea down at the COOP. Even if you could find a
pneumatic shock the mounting points where/what would you mount it to. The
OEM mounts wouldn't take the weight that's for sure!

The Hubler kit comes from a 1-Ton 4x4 Chevy. There must be front airbags for a Chevy truck, no?

As long as you do not remove the torsion bars, they wouldn't have to. (take all the weight that is...) If you adjust the un-air assisted height to a bit low, then use air shocks to get to ride height. The weight would be distributed between the torsion bars and the shock mounts.... would it be enough? Not sure.

I believe they're torsion bars also. The axles have to go through the center of the wheels. That's normally where the coil springs are placed. Putting the coil spring above the upper control arm or the use of struts is too complicated.
