You found the best place for advice! The knowledge base and friendly exchanges of ideas and help on this site is wonderful. Using the Search function can get you information on anything about the GMC motorhome.

Also, check out Jim Bounds GMC Coop website (he's in Orlando, FL), and Jim Kanamata's Applied GMC website. They are both great sources of parts and advice as well.

There are DVDs of the manuals that are great, and many other part sources and upgrades that can be found.

Also, joining the GMCMI (GMC Motorhomes Intl.) group is another wealth of information.

There are also members that live in your area and should be able to give you some one on one advice.

Welcome!

George,
Thanks so much.
I joined GMCMI and will take your advice on resources.
I did a Google on GMC in Wickapedia and found so much history and info
there.
We are looking foward to traveling in it and am sure we will love it.
From what I see so far, maintenance is key to trouble free RVing.

Dan,

Welcome to the group. I am one of the Vice Presidents of the AZ GMC club, the GMC Saguaro Jetset. Our rally season starts in (usually) November and runs until April with monthly rallies in different locations around Arizona. Keep an eye on our website (http://www.gmcsj.com/) and join us as a guest any time you can. It's a great way to meet other GMC enthusiasts, see other motorhomes, and learn from others' experiences.

What part of AZ. are you from? I'll look forward to meeting you sometime.

Welcome to our group. I have same question as Carl, what town are you closed to? Lots of good GMC folks in Az. My wife and I spend the winters out there.
Make sure you have the Black List. That will give you some insurance when you travel.

Carl,
we are in Fountain Hills and will look into your website.
Right now we are trying to digest so much info and advice,
its non stop. We will be picking up our 76 Eleganza II in about 2 weeks.
The main concern right now is getting it up our steep driveway and through
our RV gate.
I understand the tandem rear wheels and air bags will be very helpful to get
it in.
Where are you located?

We are buying it in Dewey, saw it while driving home in Fountain Hills from
Prescott.
We should be taking it home in about 2 weeks.
We sometimes visit the oldies at Pavillion Mall, some great vehicles there.
Thanks for the welcome.

Dan,

We're in north central Tucson. We picked our coach up from the P.O. (previous owner) in Gilbert, three years ago in July. Coincidentally, we were on our way home from a trip to Prescott at the time. It was a HOT 100 mile drive home with lots of vapor lock type problems etc. I was thinking to myself "what have I gotten myself into?" pretty much the whole way home.

I started fixing all the little "issues" one at a time and gradually got to the bigger ones. We have put 10,000 miles on the coach since then and enjoy it tremendously. While not really 'joiners' (does that sound familiar?) we like being in the Saguaro Jetset because it gives us a reason to get the GMC out almost every month. When we aren't attending a rally, we try to do at least a weekend trip somewhere by ourselves. We have never had a major break down on the road. Here's a link to my albums on the photo site:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/useralbums.php

Both my wife and I still work, so we can't take long vacations, but we prefer to take the Motorhome out for a week to 10 days at a time, to flying somewhere. We have decided to take trips to neighboring states at least once per year and try to minimize travel to other parts of the country that require us to economize on time by flying.

Dan,

I hope you will soon be welcomed by our Waterman (I always love his blessing) and you have seen the new Idiot's guide to the GMC. That should keep you busy for a while.

Going up a steep hill shouldn't be too much trouble, but there are so many wonderful advances available for these coaches. I might suggest the following:

If it has original gearing - 3.07:1 - then you will certainly benefit from lower gearing (numerically higher) 3.55:1 or better.

Jim K, can-o-tomatoes, Jim Kanomata, or just Applied GMC <http://appliedgmc.com/> also sells a limited slip. Just look here - you'll see it all:
<http://appliedgmc.com/level.itml/icOid/482>

I "lurked" on the GMC Net for almost 10 years before buying my coach. I love it, and even more important, my wife loves it! Our Previous Owner (PO) resides in Arizona and I refer to him as my Beloved PO, as he put in a great many wonderful upgrades.

Welcome! We love these coaches, and the people that come with them seem to be a self-selecting group of wonderful people!

We are in the same situation, wondering if we will be sitting on the side of
the road with our GMC refusing to run and waiting for a tow truck when we
pick it up to take it home.
I did some auto trade school back in the 70's and worked on cars until
electronic (toast the computer) troubleshooting started and then stopped.
I think I can handle most minor problems but I'm not ready to start taking
major components apart. We just want to be lucky enough to enjoy this
beautiful 76 Eleganza II
and travel trouble free,
Dan & Mary

Norm,
We feel that we can advise you better as we work on these coaches
everyday and I have owned since 1980 and have over milion miles on
them.
You are not obligated to purchase parts from us, and most know that.
Being in the West, you'll find that the time zone is more faverable
and we encourage all to use our toll free line for everything.
