Argh! Potential setback!

Talked to the Tow Guy on the phone.

Tow Guy: "So you want us to take it to your parking spot at the
mini-storage place, yes?"
Me: "Yes."
Tow Guy: "One of those storage places with the long rectangular
buildings with the narrow lanes in between them, that my 50 foot
landoll plus another 17 foot worth of semi will have to navigate to
reach your parking spot?"
Me: "..."
Tow Guy: "Yeah."
Me: "I'll call you back. I know I've got to at least get it out of the
building. I'll try to locate a place for it."

A few doors down from my storage slot is an RV repair place
(convenient). I suppose I could have it towed there and ask them to
put belts on try to get her running again? I was planning on doing
that myself to save some money, but that would give me somewhere to
put it.... Mom's side yard is NOT an option. :)

Got a bunch of friends?

We used to push Phantom Aircraft by hand. (We even pushed one backwards, while it was "turning and burning" and fully loaded with missiles. ... but that is a bit off-topic.) The point is: They weigh a "bit" more than your coach.

6 to 10 guys should be able to push a coach on flat ground.

A little more sane idea:

You could use a tow strap and a pick-up to move it "in the yard." (and/or out of the barn.)

I occasionally tow a GMC with my Blazer. The most recent was at Bean Station when someone broke down a few miles away from the site.

Get it close to where you want it and tow it with a decent 4 wheeler. It only weighs 11,000 pounds. I tow a 9,500 lb. John Deere and trailer all the time with my Chevy Colorado.

I do not long distance tow that much weight but I frequently tow that tractor up to about 25 miles one way.

Robin,

What's the address of the storage lot? Post it so we can plug it into Google
Maps and get an aerial view so we can see what the Landoll has to navigate.

Getting the RV place to get the BQ running may turn a great deal into a not
so great deal cost wise.

Is there any reason you can't work on it in the barn to get it running there
before you put it on the Landoll?

Does the 'barn queen' have a hitch? If so a tow bar hooked to a towed could push it into you storage spot. The brakes on the towed can also stop it. Have the landoll deliver it to the mini storage and park it with the towed. I moved mine that way with my HHR by myself. Had to take it slow and stop several times to turn the wheel of the coach. The tricky part was the 90 degree turn into the building.

The storage lot is

Magnolia Mini Storage
4719 I-55 South
Jackson, MS 39212

My storage slot is six spaces or so from the western edge on the
southern side of the property. Maybe a Landoll could do it, I don't
know. The corners may be too tight.

There's no tow hitch, so hooking up to a pickup or something isn't
really an option. I can't work on it in the barn because the whole
reason I was able to get the thing was because the guy was selling the
barn and needs it moved out quick-fast-in-a-hurry. I am sure that with
just a bit of minor-but-timeconsuming effort, I can bring her back to
life, but I've got to at a mnimum get her out of the barn, and
preferably off the property.

Turns out the RV place down the street is a dealership with very
limited service offerings. I will be better off doing it myself.
However, the dealership owner told me about the campground that's even
CLOSER to my mother's home and it has a storage lot for RVs that would
present no problems for a Landoll. I went to visit the campground and
it was as he said. Fifty bucks will get me an unimproved spot (one
that hadn't had services run to it yet), and indeed, there are a
number of handy types living there who may be willing to earn some
extra cash if I get in over my head.

The commercial recovery towing place has viewed my two videos, and the
guy thinks it could run up to 600 dollars, but AAA has confirmed that
they will re-imburse me that amount. We're going to try again on
Monday.

Maybe I could get some ropes and chains and come-alongs, and use my
brother-in-law's pickup as an anchor and winch it out of there by
hand? I mean, I"ve got time, and mechanical advantage let us build the
pyramids, so I reckon it may be permit me to drag the coach out?

How about getting the guy with the Landoll to drop the coach as close as he can (hoping for 100%), and then getting a local rigid-bar tow guy to come out and put the coach in her proper place? A 0-mile tow might only cost the truck roll charge, maybe less than $100?

I wouldn't burn a AAA free tow on it, unless you're sure you won't be traveling with either of your coaches til next spring or so.

Either way, I'd definitely aim to have both coaches in the same place. I think you mentioned that your existing storage space wouldn't charge extra for the additional coach?

And I just got a reimbursement check for $850 for my tow from Anniston AL to Southland, so I'm pretty sure AAA has you covered there. They are seriously upside down on my RV policy so far (this was RV tow #2 for me), but maybe it makes up for all the years of regular membership with no services rendered. Smile And, of course, they've earned a loyal RV member for life, as well as my vocal recommendation to others!

Good luck!

I have moved dead coaches (and smaller rigs) short distances like this. Might need to weigh down the pick-up a bit or tie it to something.

Robin,

I plugged "Magnolia Mini Storage, Jackson, Mississippi 39212, United States"
into Google Maps and took a look at an aerial view of the storage lot. I
think it might be possible for the Landoll to pull in past the middle row
and then back down to the point where you could unload it at the end of that
row. From there you would have to figger out get it to your slot along the
back fence.

You can't attach files to emails sent to the GMCnet so have sent an OFF NET
message to you with a picture of the MMS that shows what I mean. I Cc'd
Chuck Boyd on that email as he's a professional trucker and will know if it
is possible or not. Using the scale on the Google Maps page the distance
between the buildings down the central aisle is about 50 feet.

Also replacing the belts isn't a very hard job so you could do that and
we'll help you to get it running. If the brakes work you could drive it from
the barn to MMS.

Regards,
Rob M.
