I have seen the so-called "HEI Corrected Distributor Cap" and was wondering whether any of us had tried these on their coach yet. Accell makes them (among others) and the going rate is about $50.

For those who have not heard of this, it is an internally-rewired HEI-style distributor cap that has cylinder numbers 1-3-5 -7 on one side and 2-4-6-8 on the other side so that ignition wires do not have to cross from left to right, etc.

Maybe it could be an available option on Patterson's distributor?

Disclaimer: I have no interets in the automotive parts industry and I blahh, blahh...

Those are also commonly called "cross fire" distributor caps and have been around for quite sometime and are available from numerous sources.

The old Ford flatheads used them. They were known as "crab" distributors.
My '94 Caprice wagon with the LT1 has the same idea. It's known as "opti-spark".

Do they make one that will work with the Olds distributor? All the ones I've seen are listed as for right side ( ie. clockwise rotation) only.

I don't know if the cap is CW or CCW.
It would depend on where you put the plug wires.

Sir: I put one on a 350 Chevy engine in a 39 Ford hog nose pick up. It looks good with the wires in line and runs good. I don`t know if the cap would work on the olds? It is for sale $19,500, It would make a good toad..... (GMC content)

G'day again!

Here's a link to the Accel cap on Summit:

http://www.jegs.com/i/Accel/110/8141R/10002/-1?parentProductId=1503636

I checked the MM and found:

MM: X-7525
Section: 6Y-Engine Electrical
Page: 6Y-34
Figure: 32 - Secondary Wiring

The distributor rotates in the anti-clockwise direction (counter clockwise for you Yanks).

Sad

Anti-clockwise?
I installed elevators (lifts for you furriners). The elevator was the weight. The big thing on the other end of the cables was the counter-weight. If it was called the anti-weight, would that mean it didn't weigh anything? Rolling Eyes

The firing order remains the same on the inside of the cap, the wiring
is "corrected" so the wires in the
top of the cap can be hooked up with a clean look. The cap has been
build to prevent "cross talk" with
the wiring Im sure....

as for how its done, im clueless
